Title: on-the-fly format conversion
Post by: Moonshine on October 09, 2002, 08:01:43 pm
Hello,

I read this on Matt's post about the latest beta.  I'm curious would this allow for the Media Server to convert things on the fly to a MJ client on the other end?

For example a Media Server full of Ape's converted on the fly to DSL friendly MPC streams so I can listen at work ? :)

Thanks...

Well, we are considering that, but it isn't what I meant.

What we're doing now is making it so you can output at any sample rate / bit depth / channel configuration independent of the input format.

In it's full glory, this should let you play a CD at 192 khz, 24-bit, 5.1 surround.  Should be a pretty cool feature.

It also makes on-the-fly burning and conversion faster because we can change audio formats on the fly, and a CD needs 44.1, 16-bit, 2 channel data.

Hope that makes a little sense...
