Title: Album Artist in MJ9
Post by: Polonio on September 27, 2002, 11:56:38 am
"Album Artist (auto)" is a good thing in MJ9. However, I already have "Album Artist" tagged from MJ8.

Do you plan to include both fields in future releases?

Polonio, we're trying to move away from making people enter the "Album Artist"

However, in version 9, you'll be able to create and use any database fields you like, if you want the old system back.

Thanks.

This approach makes sense to me. Thank you.

(I am thinking the time I spend filling old "Album Artist" tags, but well...)

Yeah, I'm in the same boat.

Still, MJ's new album analyzer is really a lot more powerful than what MJ 8 offers, and it doesn't require user input.  So, should be better in the long run.

Thanks for understanding.

Matt..or anyone else...Could you please explain the difference between Album Artist and Album Artist (auto)? It took me some time (like six month of using MJ) to find out what the Album Artist meant...and now you introduce a little (auto) into it! :)

Album Artist (auto) is what we're trying to move to.  It automatically uses something like "Multiple Artists" for the artist if the intelligent album analyzer detects that's the case.  So, it does what the old system did, but without any user input.

The old Album Artist had to be entered by hand.  We're hoping to phase it out.

Hope that makes at least a little sense.

Question on that subject, Matt... will the database fields I create be compatible with the standard id3v2 tags of the same name?  My iPod allows me to browse via composer while on the go, reading the id3v2 composer tag,  so I'd definately create a composer field.  But will MJ use this field so that my iPod recognizes it as a composer tag?
