Well If Chart Finder Has Not Been Working For You In The Last Week Is Because I DidNot Move The Data To The Correct Location.
No One Told Me About The Problem...
I Found It When Adding Data For "Canadian Top Hits" from 1957 To 1986
You Will See The Option In The New Version.
-
Should I be able to use Chart Finder with 9.1
It isn't finding anything for me now?
-
whats your IP address? i will look on my log
also what is the artist name and song that you think should be on the chart?
also I have no chart info for 2003 in the Chart finder database (yet)
It isn't finding anything for me now?
i just tested it
24.88.229.197 - - [09/Oct/2003:19:47:30 -0400] "GET /Charts/P/pauldavis65loveaffair.txt HTTP/1.1" 200 120
note the "200" that means it was found

King,
I know that this program can save information in the tags - I would rather not do this - is there a way to disable this and just store the data in the MC database? Thanks.
-

you can turn off this in MC9 if you turn off write to Mp3 in the plugin manager.
-
I did this already - I just wanted to know if this data was also stored in the database? and if so is the information displayed when the song is playing? (or how do you get this data to display when the song is playing?) Thanks I am new to MC so I am sorry if some of this is obvious.....
-

Yes
and if so is the information displayed when the song is playing?
Depends On What Template Your Using. "Dreamstate" does.
another one did but J river deleted it for some reason along with other plug-ins so they are not aval now.
-
King :)
I changed the plugin state of this plugin in the registry so that it's always on so that I can have it running while I'm doing other stuff in MC - works great with ONE small problem.
It only seems to check the playing now playlist when it's activated and so it's impossible to get it to update the list of files without closing then opening MC :(
A real shame.
Also - since we can leave it running in the background - it'd be GREAT if we could chose a playlist other than playing now to run the check on so we can have it checking our songs in the background while we're listening to some other songs??
What'd you think?
Nila
-
well yes, but it should if the playing now list changes every 60 seconds this timer will refresh the list. but it will also stop the program. I should update every second but i was playing with the timer last time and did not change it back.
you can not use it in mode 1 (Always On)
once you make a change to the list it is working on, it is like taking your plate of food away just after your wife gives it to you and you still have not eaten anything.
Private Sub Timer1_Timer()
On Error Resume Next
Dim MJCurPlaylist As MediaJukebox.MJCurPlaylistAutomation
Set MJCurPlaylist = g_MJ.GetCurPlaylist
If List1(0).ListCount <> MJCurPlaylist.GetNumberFiles Then
MyStop = 1
Call MyRefreshList
End If
End Sub
-
Ah ok - just as well I didn't change the playlist while I was listening to the songs then - cause I used it with Mode 1 and it did a great job :)
Tagged all my songs into custom fields:
Chart Name
Chart Positioned
Charted Year
Gonna use those for some nice view schemes now :)

Hi King,
I was wondering if it would be possible to be able to set the rating that is given by the chart finder program - or if too complicated to allow the user to set this - can you give me brief instuctions on how it could be changed :
How I like to rate them is as follows (based on chart position):
All #1 hits = 5 stars
All 2 - 3's = 4 stars
All 4 - 15 = 3 stars
All 16-25 = 2 stars
All 26 - 100 = 1 star
I currently do it manually after I import files but it would be nice if it was a setting. Thanks for your work.
-
Is there a way to set up a preference for one chart over another?
it picks the one with the best rating.
The UK is normaly close to the Billboard (not always)
you would need to scan billboard only first, you should only need two passes if you use the option "SkipWord"
If this can't be done, does someone know the order Chart Finder goes in?
1. "Billboard Top Hits"
2. "U.K. Top Hits"
3. "U.S.A. Country Countdown"
4. "Rick Dees Top Hits"
5. "Argentina Top Hits"
6. "Brazil Top Hits"
7. "Canadian Top Hits"

King Sparta,
using chart finder with MC 10.0.9 brings up a message '10.0.9 is to low ... must upgrade'.
-
I am sure the other plug-ins also say the same thing.
thats because 10.0.9 or Value(1009) is lower than 9.0.164 or Value(90164)
this is an easy fix
I will need to look at all of them but it should still work fine.
I did create a new build for this program it should not give you that message
-
When can we download it? And what about database updates, does it find 2002 or 2003 chart info?

And what about database updates, does it find 2002 or 2003 chart info?
it should have 2002 data
If you have the Data for 2003 Then i am willing to get it from you and post it to the server. let me know and i will tell you where to send it.
-
Also if anyone has any 2003 data from my other plug-in Chart Grabber, that will help me out, i have some but i am also missing some.
-

Well, I just downloaded it again (v2.0.12) but it still says "Version Is Too Low"..?
-
make sure it tells you 2.0.12 on the tab on the program.
also the warning has no effect on the program so it should work just fine i will look at all of them this weekend.
my 2.0.12 does not give me a warning notice what version of MC or Mj Do you have?
-
I have MC 10.0.10 and your plugin says 2.0.12 in Plugin manager and on the tab. I uninstalled plugin first from Plugin manager and then from Windows control panel/Add & Remove programs, uninstalled shared (ocx) files from system32 and restarted computer. I tried it many times but always it says "Version Number Too Low, You Must Upgrade". It's a shame, I just ripped some 50's compilation albums and there is lots of #1 hits...
I guess I have to install 9.1 temporarly and get chart info and then install v10 again :)

I get the same message about needing to upgrade but the plug-in works fine anyway so I would try it before you re-install 9.1
-
i did play with all the plug-ins today, i did not change the version number however.
if you try the ones up for download now let me know how it comes out, and what version of mc your using if it does not work out.
-
Don't works for me.
MC 10.0.10
Chart Finder 2.0.12
If I click on 'Auto Batch Chart' the message appears. And after clicking 'OK' nothing happens at all.
It just don't works. But thank you for your work on this, I love Chart Finder!
Fex
-
Ok, it should work now
I Messed Up, I forgot To Take Something Out.
-
No success so far.
Deinstalled, restarted, installed new version. Same behaviour.
-
did you download the new version?
should be 2.0.13
-
Yup, 2.0.13 works like a charm now.
Thanks!
-
Hey King,
Any chance you could let us select a playlist to use for this instead of just playing now?
Even if just a list box with all the playlists in the options screen so we can chose one?
That way I wouldn't have to listen to the songs I want to get info for?
It would only take like 20 lines of code to change.
-
No

Running 2.0.13 with MC 10.0.22. I have been using Chart Finder for some time now. What happened to the option to have CF check reversed artist names? And why don't the option values "stick" after either being checked or unchecked?
-
What happened to the option to have CF check reversed artist names?
It does
[And why don't the option values "stick" after either being checked or unchecked? /quote]
what ones?
-
Previous versions of CF had two Setup tabs with numerous options. 2.0.13 has a single Setup tab with check boxes for various charts, field choices for info to be inserted/replaced, and four Other choices, none which say anything like "try reversing artist name." Consequently, songs with reversed artist names don't get matched. Am I doing something wrong or maybe not looking in the right place?
As far as options not sticking, when I select only Billboard Top Hits (and deselect the rest), when I return to CF, some or all chart options are selected again and (as far as I can see) there is no button or option to save settings for later.
Don't get me wrong, King, this plug-in of yours is invaluable to me and much kudos to you for bringing it to all us MC users. I just want it to work as well as it used to. :-)
-
none which say anything like "try reversing artist name."
Maybe it don't, I Forget But if you correct your taging it will work.
If it is a Multi Named Artist This Is Where It Is reversed
TempArtistName.Text = ArtistName2.Text & " And " & ArtistName1.Text
Maybe you Should Give Me A Sample Of What Your Talking About (One That You Say Should Work That Does Not)
as far as I can see) there is no button or option to save settings for later.
when you click the tab it saves the settings (Or Should) See Below
Private Sub SSTab1_Click(PreviousTab As Integer)
Call Write_Registry
End Sub
I think if you exit from the Setup tab it may not save.

well there was some things i could do before but i can't now since before i could play around with the database directly.
-
I *choose* to tag solo artist names in last name first order. This makes sense (to me) and is how they appear in Whitburn's Billboard Book of Top 40 Hits. The option was available before; without it the plug-in is useful for only those songs in my collection whose artist's names are not affected by this. For example. a song like Let's Get it On by Gaye, Marvin will not cause a match since the plug-in will match only Marvin Gaye. Is this feature not one you can restore to CF?
-
I Am Guessing Here, But your Talking About
Here is my sample:
Artist: Grant, Amy
Thats Done Here
Basicly here it looks for "," and if found it means there is a ", The" or an artist name like Grant, Amy
If ArtistName <> "" Then
If SongName <> "" Then
Call WorkOnSongName
If FoundIt <> "Yes" Then
If Len(ArtistName) > 4 Then '
MyPos1 = 0
MyPos1 = InStr(ArtistName, ",")
If MyPos1 > 2 And MyPos1 < Len(ArtistName) Then '
ArtistName1.Text = Mid(ArtistName, MyPos1 + 1) '
ArtistName = Mid(ArtistName, 1, MyPos1 - 1) '
ArtistName = ArtistName1.Text & " " & ArtistName '
ArtistName = Replace(ArtistName, " ", " ") '
ArtistName = Replace(ArtistName, " ", " ") '
End If
End If
End If
End If
End If
So The Sample Is?
-
Seems the code needed to reverse the names exists. Nevertheless the following songs were not matched to entries in the Top 100 database:
What's Going On - Gaye, Marvin
My Cherie Amour - Wonder, Stevie
My Guy - Wells, Mary
Ben - Jackson, Michael
25 Miles - Starr, Edwin
Superfreak - James, Rick
Don't Leave Me This Way - Houston, Thelma
Walk Away From Love - Ruffin, David
I Heard it Through the Grapevine - Gaye, Marvin
just to name a few, meanwhile, valid matches were made with
I Want You Back - Jackson 5
Reach Out I'll Be There - Four Tops
Please Mr. Postman - Marvelettes
Easy - Commodores
Somebody's Watching Me - Rockwell
Can you verify this by (if necessary) reversing the artist name of a song by a solo artist known to be in the Top 100 database then adding it to the playing now list and running CF? The only thing common to all songs that were not matched in all my attempts is the existence of a reversed artist name for each and every unmatched song.

Found:
http://www2.spartasoft.com:8080/Charts/M/marvingayewhatsgoingon.txt
Using: Gaye, Marvin
but, what i did was put it in playing now.
scanned - not found
scanned second time - found
=========================================
maybe slight bug, i need to find out what it is doing.
-
ubu
Try Version .14 up for download
seems to work now for me on first pass
-
Thanks, King! Works great. :)

It Just Needed One Line Of Code
Something That Should Have Already Been There

Just wondering about the possibility of getting Australian chart info into 'Chart Finder'... not sure what the best aussie charts are (maybe someone reading this has some ideas?) but Oz Net Music Chart (http://www.onmc.iinet.net.au/) seems to be better than nothing (will look into others later). What format info does chart finder need? If this can be done and I can help, just let me know. It'd probably be easier than me going through the charts and adding the info myself, and that way I can share the info with others :)

Happy 2004 to yoy all,
More charts would be nice, I think, happens to have 45 years of the Dutch top 40 here which we could add.
Greetings,
Guido
