If you had it installed previously, even with an older version, then uninstall that copy then install it again later, it starts the 14 days from that first time you install it.

The reason for this is so you cant just uninstall then reinstall it every 14 days to make it last forever.
After 14 days if you like it it's time to fork over some cash :)

I checked the version as soon as I got the expired message and it said 2.0.6 something, which must be the latest.
I did have a trial version a couple of months back but uninstalled it when it expired.
I made sure there was no AV plugin in the plugin manager and reinstalled, got the same message.

What now?

As Nila said ... the 14 day trial lasts from the first installation.

If you want to use AV again you will have to purchase it.

I don't get it. You download the software to evaluate it, it expires and a couple of months later you download a new version to evaluate and it's expiry date is governed by the earlier version?
Well, it was well over 14 days ago that the last one expired.
How long must I wait till I can 'evaluate' the new version?
If I give it another 2 weeks, will I be able to then?

Yangus,
Rhino has spent a lot of time on this.  He deserves your support.   He's being completely fair with you.

Media Jukebox and Media Center work exactly the same way.

JimH,
I know, I want to support him and I think I'm being fair as well.

I'm not trying to make a big deal out of this. Like I said, I tried out an earlier version and then spent the next couple of months playing around with WMP9 but it just seems to be like too much hard work. So I've come back to MJ and I thought I'd check out the new AV, I can't really remember the earlier version, I didn't use it much as I moved on to WMP9 shortly after.
All I want to know is if I wait a bit, will I be able to evaluate it or are my future evaluation possiblities stuffed?  ;)

All your future possibilities are stuff unless you fork out less than you spend on drinks on your average night out.

This is how ALL time cripped  shareware works.

If you could simply uninstall it then install it again to make it start again from scratch then what would prevent people from just uninstalling it each time their trial ran out then re-installing it??
Nothing!

Try any time cripped software and you'll see this is how it works. This includes BIG name brands and software - try a demo of Macromedia Dreamweaver for instance - same exact method.

It can be a pain if you do install it, try it for a day then forget about it, I've done this before with some software and when I wanted to try it out in depth couldn't but it's my own fault for not testing it when I had the chance.
The developers were nice enough to give me a trial period to see if I liked it in the first place.

If only car companies would let me drive around in cars for a couple of weeks before I bought it to see if I liked it I'd be happy :)

When MC goes production I will be resetting the protection.

In the meantime you could always have a look at AV on a friends computer to see if it's changed much from the last time you looked at it.

Next problem.

Having decided to pay so I can check AV out, I now find I can't sign up for PayPal from my country.

Anything else I can do?

But it still is Monday :D

Seriosuly though my beta tester found some issues which required me to re-write some internal code.

I will be releasing the beta tomorrow.

Oh yea, been looking foward to this, and now that we're buried under 3 feet of snow, I've got some time on my hands to play with a new AV2! ;D

OOohh, Only JUST squeezed that one in.

Your beta tester found some errors?
Do you now have a full fledged beta tester?

Well it's tomorrow now so I'm waiting :)

Dont make me wait too long or I'll cut down on your haggis allowance for the week and you'll have to suffer :)

I am just sending this version off to my beta tester and if he gives it the thumb up then I'll post it tonight.

Here's what is new:

1)  Artwork caching.   When exiting AV the current artwork is quickly saved to a disk file for fast loading in your next session.   To give you an idea of sizes I have 400 albums and the cache size is 50mb.

2)  Colour/bold/itallic/underline/text alignment support in the icon/tile text.

3)  Artwork resampling ... provides a much better scaled image representation of the artwork at a very slight loss in performance.   In conjunction with #1 this is not an issue though.

Plus loads more fixes/enhancements that I'll document when I upload the beta.

Sorry to butt in but this is my thread  >:(

OK, we've established I can't use AV until I buy it and I can't sign up with PayPal. The question was, what else can I do?  ?

Irrespective if I adjust the security so you can try it you still have the issue that you can't actually buy it.

Fire off an email to PayPal and ask them if/when your country will be supported.

Another alternative is do you have a friend/relative in a PayPal supported country (and there are 36) to buy it for you.

I could create a regsoft account but since their prices are higher I would have to pass this along.   So the price would probably be £11.
