Title: Rhino -- possible problem
Post by: JimH on March 12, 2003, 11:32:42 am
Rhino,
A user named George sent me this:

and a few days later, he sent this:

The interface plug-in "Album View 2.0" was the culprit !!!!

A "Plug-in" that wanted to be paid for evidently
Successfully uninstalled and now back in business !!
Perhaps the "Administrator(s)" should not permit this type of plug-in without proper SW Testing etc.... it's rather frustrating! for the end user ... all "trial plug-ins" should be banned if they don't provide explicit
warning about an "impending expiration" and/or a reasonable chance to be removed without killing MC/MJ etc.

Thanks for the Support !
George

Jim,

Thanks for the heads up.

Do you have any more info on this?

When AV expires it displays a messagebox saying so and disables all of the AV gui ... nothing else.

What was his issue?

Jim,

I have found one issue but it's not AV it looks like it's MC9:

1)  I was running a trial version of MC.
2)  I put the clock forward 30 days to get an expiration error from both MC and AV.
3)  When I fired up MC I got an expiration error as expected.
4)  I got a restore from the next but when it installed I got the error "License past expiration date".
5)  I put my system clock back to today.
6)  I ran MC and loaded the restore file but MC just exited.
7)  Everytime I run MC it just exits.
8)  I put a breakpoint in AV's Init routine and it doesn't even get called.
9)  I deleted AV from my system and still MC doesn't run.

I am using MC 9.0.129.

Any ideas?

We will check it.  Thanks.  But what happens if you uninstall AV?

AV isn't on my system in any shape or form ... no DLL's or source code.

MC comes up with the error:

"Interface plugin 'Album View 2.0' could not be found or created"

Which also prove's that AV isn't around to interfere with MC.

An update though ... even though it seems like MC has exited it's still actually running as it can be seen via TaskManager.

Is this what the customer George was seeing?

Try doing another restore from our website. The restore file you have is probably useless due to the time shifting.

No difference ... I get the message box saying the license was successfully installed but MC still doesn't appear but is visible in task manager.

Can you tell me how many restores I have left.

I think I'm down to about 3 now.

MC 9.0.130 fixed the problem.

Glad it's working for you. Send me an email with the email address you used when registering, and I'll reset your restore counter.
