Title: Is MJ Registered?
Post by: KingSparta on August 20, 2002, 03:48:56 pm
Is There Or Could There Be A Way To Find Out If MJ Is:

1. On A 30 Day Trial
2. Registered User
3. User Using MJ Past 30 Days, Not Registered.

This Way, A Plugin Can Be Made To Work Only For Users On A Trial version Or As A Paid Registered User?

Good Idea as I was thinking about only allowing AV for registered or 30 day trial users.

The idea is to get more users to register MJ

I noticed No Comment From J River.

I don't think they visit this neck of the woods often as I have a question that is two days old still unanswered.

But that's a poor excuse for any business.

How long does it take to post a msg saying we've taken note of your question and will get back to you ... 30 seconds ... a minute?   It could be done by any J River employee who then sends an internal email to a developer saying xyz's got a problem.

Also it doesn't send out the right signals to any potential developers.

We are putting in the time and effort to promote/add functionality to MJ ... if you don't get help (or in my case know that the msg has even been looked at) why bother?

Rhino,
We do read, but we don't always answer immediately.  Developer questions need developer answers, and right now we are swamped.  You'll understand why in a couple of weeks.

Your suggestion is a good idea, but I don't think it is currently possible.

We do appreciate your work enormously.

It doesn't exist, but we will add it today.

This information will be added to the build 354 (we will release it later today). New function, in the automation, is called IsPurchased.

See new MJAutomation doc in the Dev Zone.

What about trial users?

Also can you take a quick peek at my msg of the 20th.

I will think what they are doing is a True Or False

But As We Talked About, The New User On A Trial, If The User Is On A Trail And We Could Tell That We Could Offer The User Some info.

"I See Your Testing MJ Out"
"Since Your Testing MJ And This Plugin, Let Me Show You Some Things"
There Could Be More Uses If A Programer Knew If It Was A New User To MJ.

Hey Rhino,

Sorry if we've been jerks -- it's just that we've had our heads stuck in the Media Jukebox 9 sandbox.

However, you're doing something awesome with Album View and all your feature requests and questions are making MJ better for everyone -- so thank you very much

Exellent..., will need to play with it later tonight

number IsPurchased()  (added in v8.0.354)

Description: Retrieves registration information

Return Value: if Media Jukebox is purchased return value will be -1. The value will be equal to 0 if trial period expired but the program was not purchased.  If the value > 0 the function returned number of days left in the trial period.
