Title: New version of board is up
Post by: JimH on October 09, 2003, 12:15:45 pm
We've updated the YABB software (not YADB), so the look you see is a little different.

You may need to edit your profile to change the time adjustment.  In Minneapolis, it's a 6 there, meaning 6 hours after Greenwich time.

You may also need to save your bookmarks again.

Please report any problems you see.

Thanks.

JimH,

I hate to sound "nit-picky", but is there an option to put the "new" tag *before* the thread name?  I get dizzy with all the eye-movements when first looking for the new tags and then reading the thread title.  I suppose it's great for languages that read right to left, though (Herbrew? Farsi?)

I'll look, but I don't think it's an option.

Jim,

New format looks great!!  I truly was thinking just yesterday that I did not like the old format...racing stripe thing.  Just did not fit the product "coolness".

Nice to see the MC Icon...

New format is really nice.

Seeing as I always forget about PMs anyway its not a big deal, but the 'hey, lee269 you have x messages' text for me at least is sort of squashed up at the top. Im even more likely to miss it now. Can it go somewhere else?

And - who is bob?

[EDIT - OK scratch that - its changing with every page refresh - obviously still being worked on. I still want to know who bob is though :) ]

It's still a great new look!  JRiver's "glamour factor" continues to rise...  first a new skin (thanks to Knick) and now this.  What's next?

So much is new. Marvelous work from the JRiver Boys. Many thanks to all of you.
One problem though with the 24-hours setting. In the Last Post colum you see the 24 hour setting only with older message, that is older than Today
But somebody said that you are still working on the new version of board.

Is there a way to change the colours?

The black text on the blue is hurting my eyes and I can hardly read the blue on blue text!

Yeah, there's something screwy with the time.  I used to be -2 (I'm in California), but to follow the profile instructions about the "current time", I changed to -8 (I'm guessing that's the non-daylight-time offset).  So now the time is correct for me at the top of the forum page, but the times displayed in the table of contents and in individual posts is way too early.

Well I see a correct time but it's this am/pm stuff. The time is correct for me at the top of the forum page, but the times displayed in the table of contents and in individual posts are in am/pm mode.

If its a voting kinda thing I'd definitely vote for "New" before the actual topic. :)

Very slick and very sexy!

Love the new look of the board guys.

It looks almost as slick as MC itself...

I am an admin for a very large (38000 members) vBulletin forum so have lots of experience with forum software. If YABB works in a similar way to vBulletin there will be a template that can be edited to move the location of the new icon back to where it was.

I just wondering who Bob was myself :D  Are we gonna get the old descriptions back??  Citizen Kane sounded much better than "YABB God"  I struggled for months to get to Citizen Kane status and now its all gone  :'(

First of all, it tells me my avatar is too big.  (And yet, they still send me those E-mails.) Then I can't change anything due to the error. I would rather have an oversized avatar than the correct time.

I do, however, appreciate the change from "Citizen Kane" to "YABB God".  Immortality is way cool.

I like the 'report to moderator' at the bottom of everyones posts. Now when I get smug it'll take less time to get it 'bleeped'.  ;D

Anyway, this one loads pages much faster then the old one. Still would like to be able to set my own limits on how many posts per page. 50 is an awful lot when trying to find something. Can you reset it to 25 per page?

I'm having to log in on each visit whilst on the old board I didn't - presumably because of the cookie.

I haven't deleted any cookies so why am I not recognised when I visit the new forum without having to sign in?

I've never been a god before.  Quite like it actually.  Maybe we can start to work miracles.  Any ideas what the first one should be?  :D

That's not how it's working.  It's currently working to the time in the UK rather than Greenwich mean time.  UK time time is currently 1 hour ahead (british summer time - GMT+1) so I should set my profile to 1 for it to read correctly but I have to set it to 0.

Just wanted to express that I'd like to see "New" before the topic, if it's possible.  It's much easier to scan down and see the new messages.

It seems to be that the forum time is summertime already. We will see on Oct. 26th
Count my vote for "next" before topic
Since I'm not very good in English: What the heck is the meaning of "Bull Goose Looney" and why I'm lost in space if I post more than 250 times?

Try deleting the cookies for yabb.jriver.com and log in again.

If it applies to your setup, you may have to disable automatic cookie handling for yabb.jriver.com or make it a trusted site.

I don't think it's your english skills that make those terms confusing.

Maybe it's a way to make new (or infrequent) posters feel better about themselves. I mean, I think I'm much happier as a woodchuck than to be lost or looney.

Then again, it's just a silly description on an internet bulletin board. I guess there are probably bigger things to worry about. :)

Amongst other things, I install and maintain the software on the servers at JRiver. I'm not actually moderating any boards, that was just for testing purposes.

Two minor quibbles:
When I mark all threads as having been read, I liked the redirect to the Interact > General page listing the other forums. When I click "mark as read" I'm done with that forum and I'm ready to read another.

When I post a reply, I liked the refresh of the thread to which I posted. I'm neither a fast typist nor an exceptionally quick thinker, so there are often interesting replies by the time I click "Post". Plus it gives me one more chance beyond Preview to scan for mis-spelling, incorrect URL's, etc.

But on the whole, it's a nice skin. Reminds me slightly of PixOS.

There are a couple of little things regarding the board...with the old board in IE if you read a topic then used the back button the topic as no longer marked as new but in Firebird this didn't happen.  Now this has been reversed, it works in FB but not in IE...

Secondly there is a rendering error in the tree at the top on FB.  If you hover over one item it underlines all of them...I thin this is a css glitch as I have seen this on other sites with fb but it can be remedied.

Cheers

It works for me in IE, Adam.
