We've finally got a deal signed. We've been working on it for about 6 months. It's big.
So this afternoon, we're loafing around. I just bought a couple bottles of champagne for the team, to go with the wine that Cmagic so kindly contributed.
Sorry you can't be here. Many of you have contributed immensely to our success.
Cheers.
-
We want details!! Pictures!! :)
Congrats on the BIG DEAL!!

Apple is announcing iTunes for Windows right about now. Coincidence? :D I guess we'll know soon.
-
I've just seen the screenshot on the Apple iTunes website http://www.apple.com/itunes/ (http://www.apple.com/itunes/). Looks very similar to MC 9.1 a few versions ago. Or am I wrong? Either way, many congratulations to Jim, Matt, John etc

Itunes for Windows doesn't even come close to MC9.1
-
Don't think Itunes and MC9.1 have anything in common although they look very similar! !
-
We've finally got a deal signed. We've been working on it for about 6 months. It's big.
I am Still Thinking This Comment Was Strategically Placed Because JimH Knew Itunes For Windows Was To Be Released.
And Was A Joke on All.
Why Would jimH Say Something In Passing And Here It Is Days Later And No Update.
-
I don't think the big guy is jerking your chain on this one.
-
It's big.
-
purchased a baloon for advertising? :)
-
Jim,
You guys need to act quickly. Lots of buzz on other forums about folks debating whether to stay with MC9 or jump to iTunes...
Don't miss the bus...tough to undo momentum...
-
3g 20GB iPod
Caribbean Blue iSkin
TiVo | Series 2 - 226 Hours
Da mn you!!!!
I only have G1 5GB iPod and TiVo Series 1, 40Hours.

Heh. Anyone that has used MJ-MC for more than five minutes will not even bail out if the ship was on fire.
And who's to say that what they have up their sleeves won't kick iTunes butt?
-
And who's to say that what they have up their sleeves won't kick iTunes butt?
As it is now, I don't think they even need anything up their sleeves to kick that sore butt...
Da mn you!!!!
I only have G1 5GB iPod and TiVo Series 1, 40Hours.
I only have no TV channels at all and a G1 128MB Rio 500. Oh well, I guess it means I really don't need AAC and iTunes then :D
-
iTunes being RIPPED out of my system as I write this. Very unfriendly!
Needed to re-apply 2.1 firmware and re-initialize in order to get my friendy MC9 to function again. Sheesh!!
Here's to you MC9 - you've got it right!!
-

Or maybe, that you really need to go out, get an iPod, download iTunes, convert your music to AAC, get Cable/DirectTV and get a TiVo.
Your pocketbook won't be so happy.

Tivo, hmmm. Does this deal have anything to do with Tivo?
-
Tivo, hmmm. Does this deal have anything to do with Tivo?
dingobaby,
MC9 already plays very nicely with TiVo. No special agreement was required.
I can broadcast my entire MC9 Music and Image library to my TiVo (& quality sound system :)) through TV via my home network.
So, iPod at work, TiVo at home...all organized and enabled by MC9!!
-
I think it has something to do with providing music to future space flights to china
-
Congratulations on your big news, whatever it may be.
I'm going to offer my guess as to what the Big News could be about, and it's just a guess.
On 9/25/03 Dell said:Dell Media Experience is an application that will soon ship standard on all new Dimension desktops. It enables consumers to use their PC to manage digital media such as photos, music, digital videos and DVDs. Dell Media Experience is designed to be an important tool for making the PC the nerve center of the digital home.
Maybe the JRiver team just found out that Dell selected MC among the competing designs.
Now that would be BIG
-
That would be nice. If it's true, then I'll stop uninstalling the Dell media software (MusicMatch) when we get a new system in at work. :)
-
So when can we expect a public announcement?
-
Here's to hoping for it being something like MC9 providing the interface for an online music store (non WMA based), so I can ignore Itunes....
Can you please give us an idea when to expect an announcement? I want to check out the Itunes music store, but I'm not a big fan of AAC; I'll hold off if I know you guys are going to announce something soon (Even if it has nothing to do with an online music store), but if this is something that's going to happen in 2004, well, that's just kinda mean....
-
Here's a screenshot from the Nov 2003 PC World of what the Dell software looks like:

Digging a little deeper, I read that Dell's new Media Experience software was written by Dell and CyberLink Corp.
Oh well, my guess looks like it won't pan out, but that would've been a nice deal for our friends at JRiver.
-
My money's on a music service deal to set MC up as a full-service media tool. Everybody else is jumping on the bandwagon....
I only know of one music service that makes sense and is available to JRiver and that would be eMusic, but lordy, I hope that's not so. I'd hate to think that JRiver played a role in killing the best thing on the Internet....
So I'll hope I'm wrong and that JRiver has linked up with someone else....

So what ever was this announcement? Was it just a tease? A joke? Did I miss it?

WOO HOO!! I get the prize!! Now, what did I win?
A copy of Bohemian Rhapsody?
A copy of Rhapsody in Blue?
-
KingSparta's car when it hits 200,000 miles. We've got an Isetta for him next.
-
I'd rather have your Yugo...You know, the one that's in the shop...
-
Required WMP9 ? Not MC 9.1 ??
-
I hope the "MC9 to MusicStore" connection is *seemlessly* enabled.
I will NEVER use WMP as my library management tool, especially with a dedicated client like MC9 to compare to... WMP as an interface is wayyyy too clunky and slow...
Looks like you do NOT need to subscribe to BUY music...that's nice/. WMA file format will be a drawback...but I think I saw some MP3 conversion plugins... I did not check them out...'cause I could not find them again in the "interface". d'oh!!
-
KingSparta's car when it hits 200,000 miles....

The strange thing is that the message from JimH saying that cct1 was close has disappeared. It had a link to one of the retail giants who is apparently getting into the online music store business.
I guess we have to keep waiting for the official announcement.
-
I was at JRiver world headquarters on 10-17-2003. (ask anyone but Jim, he was gone)
I seen the whiteboard.
You didn't.
Ha! Ha!
Later.

Definitely. But it still looks more like WMP than MC to me...
-
Yeah... my first thought, upon looking at it was WMP...

<bump>
Was there ever any announcement? Post me a link if there was please.

Well I think it wil be in the next build.

The announcement.

Nope.

Oh well....
-
While we're all speculating on the future, I do have to bring up a question about the past:
Jim, where exactly did ICE/TCP fit into the development cycle of MediaCenter? :) It was about eight or nine years ago when that canoe first graced the shelves of my workplace, when we licensed about 30 copies of this Telnet/FTP/TCIP stack.

I am wondering what the point is to mentioning "big news", and then leaving everyone hanging. This type of thing always seems to stretch into eternity. Thirteen months from now, we'll get an "update" that says "All I can tell you is that it involves 1's and 0's. Hooray!"
-
Reminds me of Blizzards continuous announcement that "The v1.10 patch for Diablo II is in the final stages of testing, and shoud be available very soon", which lasted for nearly 18 months.
Please, just tell me when I can have it, whatever it is.
Sorry, did I just say that out load?
I meant, congratulations!
