Title: WARNING: Don't let iTunes organize your music
Post by: gpvillamil on October 17, 2003, 01:33:20 am
For those of you thinking of experimenting with iTunes:

It has an option to "organize your music folders" which basically builds a directory tree and renames your files based on tags.

If your current directory organization is different from the iTunes scheme, and you leave this option switched on, the renaming and reorg will lead to MC9 losing track of your music.

Alarmingly, this option is switched on by default.

So if you're installing iTunes:

1) DON'T let it search for your music when you install
2) Start the program
3) SWITCH OFF the organize music option in Settings
4) Then import your music

There shouldn't be any major issues with MC9/iTunes coexistence after this.

I'm currently checking out some of the software iTunes installs to deal with the iPod, that might cause other issues.

I have heard that there is another option that you probably want to switch off as well, which copies all of your music to where ever iTunes wants to put it.

Just figured I'd make an bit of an update.

One of the settings that everyone with an iPod should be aware of is the option:
"Enable Disk Use"

This lets the iPod act as an external drive.  When I did this, I was able to use it in with MC 9.1 as well as iTunes.
