Title: Stability problems in recent builds
Post by: JimH on October 17, 2003, 09:55:42 am
For the last several builds, we've seen problems that we can't explain or duplicate.  Odd crashes, etc.

If you've seen this problem, please disable all plug-ins that you can.

Matshif reported in the 280 bug thread that uninstalling Rhino's GetPlayingNow plug-in eliminated the crashes.  Apologies to Rhino for even suggesting it could be possible, but please make sure this plug-in is uninstalled if you're having problems.

Any clues appreciated.

I must add that I have installed PlayingNow again. And now I have had now problems like I reported before, that's crash when exit and going for another skin, so the apology is in place to Rhino.

I really haven't noticed too many crashes latley. It did crash on me once when I went mouse-clickin' crazy.

There are a lot of problems when you're running low on disk space. I was so low that it started, then crashed right away.

One time Download Mananager was just finishing a file (auto import) and I was closing MC at the time. It didn't like that too much.

Importing a lot of files, scanning a lot of files, or viewing 'My Computer' with a lot of files(10,000+), it will crash more than it should.

Other than that, it does a pretty good job.

One thing to note about 'PlayingNow':

He changed the name of the plugin and it showed 'GetPlayingNow' AND 'PlayingNow' in the plugins. Make sure the old one is removed.

I'm not saying that's the reason, but I did see it here.

I did have both installed, and uninstalled both, then re-installed the latest.

Yes Jim ... it's my bad :(

I found and fixed the problem today.

It was to do with the fact that I renamed the application but did not change the GUID.

This resulted in MC activating my DLL twice (for those who had the original version installed) and when it came to unload the DLL it called my terminator function twice which then tried to dealloc already dealloced memory, etc, the second time around.

There are two solutions:

1)  Wait for the new build tonight which has re-entrancy code in place or
2)  Uninstall playing now, fire up regedit, nagivate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JRiver\Media Jukebox\Plugins\Interface and remove any PlayingNow or GetPlayingNow entries then re-install.

My apologies to one and all.

Not a problem, Jamie.  You've done more than your share to add features and capability to MC.  Thanks for finding this and reporting back so fast.

This explains why I never had a problem with Rhino's program - Before installing PlayingNow I thought it would be a good idea to uninstall GetPlayingNow in case they conflicted.  I surprise myself sometimes  ;D

I did the same thing (uninstalled the old before installing the new) and so haven't had the problems others apparently have.

But I did have a few crashes on exit. I wasn't sure, but they seemed to occur when I closed while MC was playing and PlayingNow was JUST popping up.

Hi Jim / Jamie.

Even after loading the latest build tonight, it still shows both in my tree.

(Tried to paste a pic here but failed)

Cheers

go to windows Add & remove programs and remove them from there

then make sure your installing the latest version, if you download over top of an old version it may take less than a second to download and basicly the browser does not download the program. so it would be best when you download it to rename it by adding the version number onto the file name when you use saveas and do not just :open: the file when you download it.
