Title: Distributing Audio Over a LAN...
Post by: marketability on October 19, 2003, 12:46:29 pm
Has anyone had any experience of the Exstreamer used with MC?

http://www.barix.com/exstreamer/ (http://www.barix.com/exstreamer/)

any other similar ideas?

I am looking for a way of taking an audio signal from one of the souncards in my MC server and sending the audio signal over a wireless lan to a HiFi in another room

That's looks cool!!

I've always wondered how one could do that. I know 'Remote Desktop' can do it..sorta by using a sound card driver but you would need another computer. The sound quality isn't as good compared to a real sound card.

I could login to a computer and have the sound be transferred too.

This looks quite interesting.

Ideally I want one of those (exstreamer) at the server end and another in reverse at the HiFi end - then I'd be in cable-free wife-smiling heaven!  8)

How would you then control what the Exstreamer was playing?  A PC based remote such as an Ipod connected into your home network again using Wifi?

I've found what looks like the answer! ;D

Barix WiFi Exstreamer at the HiFi end (c£200)
Barix Instreamer at the Media Center Server end (c£150)

I use either my Wireless iPAQ or my Fujitsu Stylus PC for remote control through out the house

Looks real nice. But its mp3 only - no ape, ogg, wav or wma.

My understanding is that it can play whatever is streamed to it from the Instreamer

If you use an exstreamer on its own it uses its own audioserver software which can handle only MP3
