Title: why shareware???
Post by: kranium256 on October 20, 2003, 11:13:13 am
hey guys

i really adore mj and now mc ... but the only thing i hate is that its all shareware ... i'm still in college and still havent actually bought any software ...

and that forced me to switch from mc to something else ... and i've been looking like how !!! and at the end i still come back to mc ... but my darn shareware is over ..

so i was wondering whether you could probably have a free version ... with some features cut ... and leave the paid version as it is ... (something like Ad-aware 6 has done)

that would really help all of us people who still do listen to music and need to organize them ... but just cant pay for it you know!

hey just a suggestion ...  :)

I thought some features (the plus features) are disabled after the trial? It still should work for the most part.

Unfortunately JRiver aren't a charity, they are a commercial software developer. They have bills to pay, mouths to feed and CD's to buy just like the rest of us. To do this they need reimbursing for the investment they put into the software. That means selling it.

Unlike a lot of software vendors they allow you to use the program for a full 30 days before you have to buy it. That's very generous and allows you to properly evaluate the software. After that I think it's fair to ask for payment for the software.

Nope, once it's gone, it's gone

Why would there be "Plus Feature"s in the program, like options, if it all expired? Are you 100% positive on this one?

Looking around the site it seems that Media Jukebox 8 has a free version and a "Plus" version but Media Center 9.1 is all or nothing.

Can you provide free food and loging?

a goat or a chicken once a week may keep them from feeling hungry.

I mop there floors and dust the J river offices for my free version

I suspect the "plus" features are legacy references from back in the MJ days... or maybe left in for the possible new version of MJ9.....

However, imjustagamer is right.... once it goes.... it's all gone. Hence the problems people have/had with even buying the software once the trial expires... cuz they can't open the program anymore. (Although...this has been fixed with the nice link at the top of the forums, now)
