I have decided to start storing my CD library as APE instead of MP3 files for a variety of reasons. One of these is the ability to re-encode to MP3 as appropriate (high bitrate for more critical use where space is a concern, and lower bitrate for portable use where space is a bigger concern). For creating MP3 cds it would be nice if I could encode the file as part of the burning process, but this does not appear to be an option with MC9. Right now it appears that I would have to first encode the files to MP3 then use a separate program to burn the CD (since the MP3's are only temporary and I don't want them part of the library). Is there a way to do this with MC9 in one step? If not, could it get added as a feature request? So far I really love this program. 99% of the time, it is as good or better than the separate stand alone pieces I have been using.

I think the reason it probably isn't there is because it's a long slow process to convert all the mp3's and therefore something that'd have MC doing that one task for AGES.
It's a nice idea though but I dont reckon they'll add it any time soon.

This is on the list of feature requests for the next version of MC. For now, you could do the conversion to mp3, then just drag and drop the resultant files from Windows explorer (or the MC "my computer" tree) into the MC burning window.
You might want to set up a dedicated folder to always send the converted mp3's to for burning. Then you can easily pick them for burning and delete them later.
