Post by: elpaolo on October 22, 2003, 09:20:20 pm
Any reason why AAC files sounds muffled on MC?  Any way that might be remedied?

Actually, I think I read something elsewhere about muddy output from QuickTime.  Go into your Control Panel and fire up the QuickTime applet.  Select Sound Out from the dropdown, and choose "waveOut" as the device.  Apparently, choosing DirectSound causes muddiness for some people.  Might just be a sketchy DirectSound implementation for your soundcard.

To clarify, the sound is muffled with respect to how it sounds in iTunes (windows version).  Very muffled.  You don't need to be an audiophile to hear it.  (if i'm even one...)

The waveOut setting is already in place....good guess, though.

My hunch is with DSP.  Perhaps MC doesn't crunch the AAC files as well?  I'm probably way off....

DFX for sure doesn't support AAC - from what I've read, at least.

I doubt it's much of a stretch to say the MC DSP doesn't support it either.

Any ideas?
