Can anyone give me hint so I can test AAC format, legaly to no cost?

Download iTunes (free) and encode a file from a CD that you own.

Thanks.
So I have to download the whole program and then you have free tracks to play?
I would like to play them in MC.

Well, in order to play back AAC in MC, you need iTunes (or at least quicktime). So you probably need to download it anyway.
Once you've downloaded it, you can import songs from CD. You might be able to convert them from WAVs as well.
There are probbaly some other AAC encoders out there that will work.
However, in order to play in MC, it needs the QT decoder.

Okay, on the thought that there are other encoders, besides iTunes, out there... anyone know where some are?
I have Nero 6 installed on my system, but nencode didn't "do" anything. At all. I found "aacenc_25" but it made files that neither QT or MC could understand or play.
I have QT 6.4 installed and do not wish to install iTunes. Hell, the last time I did, it didn't see my CD-ROM drives anyway. How can I encode some AAC files from my CDs if I can't use MC9 (yet, :)) and won't use iTunes?

Have a look here:

I just downloaded this and converted an ape file. Works well, but others be warned! It will use the extension .mp4. When trying to open this in MC, you might get a "Media Core" crash like I did. When I renamed to .aac, it loaded fine.

Omni,
Can you try again with MC 9.1.289. Problems importing .mp4 should be resolved in that version.

I am using that version. :( Maybe it's because I don't have the "AAC Audio (m4a,m4p,aac)" file association set?? <shrug>

Also, if you have Quicktime Pro installed you can open a wav and export it to MP4.
