Title: Playing Now v1.2 beta is now available
Post by: RhinoBanga on October 26, 2003, 08:58:50 am
UNINSTALL ANY OLD VERSION OF PLAYING NOW PRIOR TO INSTALLATION.

Here's the download link:

http://www.jdnet.co.uk/pn.zip

Here's what's new:

Fixed quality of popup when saving/copying to the clipboard ... it uses the new JpegQualityOnSave item.
Added JpegQualityOnSave in new Skins section of PlayingNow.INI to allow fine tuning of the saved jpeg file (default is 100%).
Removed ForceSkinPath from General section of PlayingNow.INI and added Skins section to PlayingNow.INI with a Path variable
The show popup key now acts as a toggle, i.e. if the popup is showing it will hide it.
Added <Playlist.Offset> and <Playlist.Total> tokens so you can provide something like "1 of 10".
Fixed issue where was logging all files.
Added ability to switch skins at runtime via the right-mouse button
Added PreviousNowNext skin showing how to use the <"Previous."> and <"Next."> tokens.
Documentation ... well some anyway explaining all the variables in the .INI files.
Popup now shows itself at the end of the playing track, ala MTV, check out PopupAtEnd in the documentation.   This can be switched off.
Added random skins ... check Random in PlayingNow.INI or via the right-mouse menu.
Can now automatically FTP the popup when a track changes.   Check out AutoFTP in the documentation.

This is beta and if all goes well it will go production in the next few days.

Also per my previous email the [Thumbnail] section is gone ... so you will have to update your skins.

Have fun ... I'm off to play Fifa 2004.

This is great!  Excellent job on the documentation, as well.

One thing that I can't find is how to turn off the popping sounds with opening of a popup.  Unless it isn't a function of Playing Now??

Thanks, again.

Hi Shelley,

In the config.ini for the skin you are using there is an entry called "PlaySound=".  Delete the value in this entry and you will not get the sound.

Edit:  Forgot to say thanks Rhino for one of the best plug-ins for MC ever.

could you maybe create a ftp.ini or somthing so the installer does not keep overwriting the ftp site info if the file is already there?

I don't seem to be able to get the ftp function to work. I've modified the playingnow.ini so that it would use my ftp account info, but it doesn't seem to do anything at all (my firewall doesn't seem to even try to intercept anything). Do you need to install anything beside the plug-in?

right click on the window and, use the option to send it to the ftp site

Request:

Is it possible for you to convert the duration to another format before being displayed?

Like if a file is 5:38, it would convert it to 5mins 38secs or something to that effect. Maybe have some time formats in the ini. Also do like 5m 38s. Same with hours. 1hr 5mins 38secs or something.

I know I could make a new field and use that for the time but converting those in MC would be a pain.

That worked great. Any way of automating the ftp send each time a new track is played?

Well as it been said before Great Work!

As i tried to modify it to my work i found one problem...
I am from Israel and half of my songs are in hebrew.
The playing now doesn't know Hebrew.
Even if i changed the font , to fonts that know hebrew like ariel , it still shows GIBRISH .
I need to add something like FontScript=hebrew but i could not found how to do it, is there any body that know how to slove this?
P.s All the other programs knows hebrew well, even more then what i know LOL

I'd take a guess that it's because the plugin does not support Unicode.   Do tracks with just ASCII text work?

When installing whatever version of PlayingNow I get the following error message and then ofcourse the program doesn't work:

I have Windows XP (Dutch) SP1 and Office 2003 (Dutch).

I read somewhere it could have to do something with Office but I can't imagine what.

Any clues ?

Thanks,

I doubt very much is has anything to do with Office.   It's probably down to the fact that I do not ship out the MSVC/MFC libraries anymore and you don't have them on your machine.

Download this file:

http://www.jdnet.co.uk/mfc42.zip

And copy the files into your Windows\System32 directory.   DO NOT OVERWRITE ANY OF THESE FILES IF THEY ALREADY EXIST.

Then try re-installing.

All dll's where already there, still not working, same error message

Can you check that the following files exist within your Windows\System32 directory:

wininet.dll
winmm.dll
msimg32.dll
mfc42.dll
msvcrt.dll
comctl32.dll
msvcp60.dll

Just for your information:

I tried version 1.0.6 and that works fine.

Whenever installing the new version 1.1.x or 1.2, I get the dll error.

Can you validate that file file:

C:\Program Files\James Dickson\PlayingNow 1.2\PlayingNow.dll

Exists on your machine.

Next hit start then run then enter the following and press return:

regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\James Dickson\PlayingNow 1.2\PlayingNow.dll"
regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\James Dickson\PlayingNow 1.2\PlayingNow.dll"

And tell me what errors you get.

The file exists,

If I unregister the dll, it says it succeeded.

If I register, it gives the error like above screenshot.

When loading PlayinNow.dll in the program, the following error message is listed:

EFSADU.DLL not found, error opening file
Title: Re:Playing Now v1.2 beta is now available
Post by: bennyd on October 27, 2003, 03:08:54 pm
the other error messages I get is:

Warning: At least one delay-load dependency module was not found.
Warning: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in a delay-load dependent module.

I searched for the EFSADU.DLL file but it is not on my system

Well I'm glad to report that file is nothing to do with PlayingNow ... it's an OS one.   Checking on google brings up loads of hits on that dll where people are getting the same error.

I have the file on my machine ... it's in \Windows\System32 and \Windows\System32\dllcache:

File version: 5.1.2600.0
Description: File Encryption Utility
Copyright: © Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

How I got it on there I don't know.   But I did find this:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/xpehelp/html/xetbsFileSystemLocalAccessSecurityComponents.asp

Maybe you have a bad XP installation?

The versions worked fine until some day (I think since I installed office 2003).

I can't imagine office would corrupt win XP installation ?

I found the dll on the net and copied it into my system32 directory, still the same error when installing your prog.

Via the dependancy checker I only get now the second error (see screenshot previous post), but I don't know which dll it is complaining on, I don't know the tool enough to find out.

Rhino - the 'Show after song' is GREAT.

Perfect for me and the way I work - it's sooo much more useful to see what I just listened to.
I'm like: yeah, I liked that song, what was it - boom - thats what it was :)

One small thing - would it be possible to have a: TimeToShowLastSong  - so we can set how long the pop-up shows at the end individually from how long it shows at the beginning of the next song.

What would be toooooooo (yes: toooooooooooooooo) cool, would be if we could have a:
DoNotHideIfNotRated = 0/1.
DoNotHideLastSongIfNotRated = 0/1.

we could then set it so the pop-up did not hide if the song was not rated (people could set it to show for the currently playing song or the last song played).
Just like a reminder to rate the song.

What'd u think?

I know I still have like 7000 songs unrated and have NO plans to spend a week in the house going through each one just rating them - no thanks - got better things to do.

This would just remind me to rate as I listen :)    (isn't rating songs such a necessary but painful task!)

Oooh - Here's what'd be GREAT.

U already have turned everything else into objects where we can have as many as we want.

Why not make the 'pop-up' objects too - with one of the parameters when it shows up (in %)
0% = beginning of song
100% = end of song
along with a duration for each object
and a:  showIfHasRating = it only pop's up at that point if the song is rated?

That'd be tooooooo dope!!

lol - along with a Next/Last browse button that would let us browse through pop-up's for all the songs in playing now showing the info in the window as if all the songs were like a little book we could browse through to see the info for each.

Then it'd just be orgasmic :)

Is it just me or does the Toggle Popup command seem kind of flaky? Sometimes when I hit it, it pops up and immediately starts to fade out. Anybody else seeing this?

If you hold down the keys for too long then windows sends two notifications.   Try it ... hold down Win then press P and keep them pressed down.

Yes but it would require some effort on your part.   Enable logging then in your email client write a script that reads the logfile and appends the information to the end of your email.

Why not just use one of the paste keys?   It's only 2 key presses.
