Title: Bitrate Conversion for Handhelds
Post by: Cookie on October 29, 2003, 05:12:11 pm
Can I convert the bitrate of mp3 files as I copy them to my handheld device if that device IS recognised as a removable drive? Or do I have to have a plugin to suit that device if I want bitrate conversion??

I'm thinking of buying a generic solid-state usb-key drive / mp3 player.
The plug-ins web page says...

"Plug-ins are required for handheld devices that are not detected by your PC as a fixed or removable drive "

But it doesn't say if I can still convert file bitrates as I transfer them to my handheld device - if it IS recognised as a removable drive??

Thanks with fingers crossed. :-)

Cookie,

This should not be a problem. The same functionality availble in Plugins is available for Fixed and Removable drives. The difference is that for fixed and removables, the support is built in.

Bottom line.. On the fly bitrate conversion for removable and fixed drive type players will work.

Good.
But how do I do it - is there a better plugin than the Portable Drives V3.016 that I have? Cos it doesn't offer the bitrate conversion as far as I can see???

Thanks,
David

David,

Try drag and dropping some files on the drive letter and then click on the drive letter. You will see the files "In Queue" and a button for "Upload" and one for "Options". Click the "Options" button and you will see the options for conversion.

Ah Hah!
Had to borrow a device before this worked! I love it.
Thanks.
