Now that 9.0 is out in large numbers, should we combine the two boards?
On the one hand, it would be simpler to read.
On the other hand, it may confuse some new people.
Any strong feelings one way or the other?
Tastes great?
-
I think we should have 9 boards one for each version.
;D

Maybe you should try the $4.99 stuff.
OK, I did laugh. I admit it.
Going out for some mussels now.

Personal View: Keep seperate.
Right now if I'm checking out MC vs. MJ it is easier to just jump to that board and look for stuff.

You're gonna have some 'pain' if you keep it up with that stuff.

Well having been away from the boards when the switch happened, I was confused when I came back, as it took me a while to figure out what was going on.
Alright, don't make fun of me, I know it should not have been that tough, but I am slow so ease up.....
Anyway, I have two opinions, and they are in contradiction to each other, so take it for what it is worth.
There are several topics that start on one board, that are closed and the author is directed to start the same topic in the other board as it fits better in the other board, which I think is a pain, since it may be a topic I am interested in, and I then have to go over to the other board to follow it.
In addition, there was a time last week, or the week before, where there was a large number of topics closed, as they related to MC9, and moved to the MC9 board, that took up a lot of room on the first page of the MJ8 Board, pushing some of the more useful topics onto the next page.
The other side of the coin however, is that newbie's might get confused. Maybe an additional field that allows for a version that the topic relates to, and some filters that would allow you to filter out one version or another if you were not interested in those topics.
Concise and to the point! yea right! ?

Well just testing it out for Christmas dinner. i think i will get the $11.00 a bottle stuff this one is not that good. you should have seen my wifes face when she took a taste.
I did buy a Gift Set Of Crown Royal for my boss $49.99, 4 glass, 1\2 gal - 1.75L
-----------------
At any rate i do think there should be 2 forums, since there is a split on the product.
Media Jukebox
Media Center

I vote for separate forums.
I also suggest that the animated "rollover" link (on the main page) to Interact be linked to the Forum root; it currently takes you to the MJ8 forums.
-
agree, if i only use version 9, why take me to version 8
-
I don't think it makes sense to combine boards until 9 is out of beta. There are enough feature differences to cause confusion.

Funny, I was just going to say that myself. :)

King > Now Drinking Cheep Champagne ($3.99 a bottle)
So you would be seeing 18 if there were 9. Could you handle that?
phelt > I don't think it makes sense to combine boards until 9 is out of beta
Agreed...merge after official release
Jim,
I concur with phelt but....
it's kind of lonely over here in v8 land since I haven't taken out that bad motor scooter and ride.

Kur said it-my opinion as well

I think DEFINITELY keep them as two seperate boards. With the link taking to the main forum board rather than directly to v8.
If you mix them then your going to have a few problems.
1. You'll have the problem that happened when 8 was in beta that new people were coming to the board, reading the bugs that were happening with v8 while it was in beta then writing bad reviews etc at cnet saying that MJ had tons of bugs when in fact v7 was stable and only the new beta version had the bugs. It also makes it look like your software is unstable to first time visitors if they see all these bug reports, they wont realise its for the new beta version.
2. New people will see suggestions, ways of doing stuff etc that related to v9 and try to do it in v8 and have problems and then wonder why its not working causing loads more 'bug' complaints.
3. Bug reports, suggestions etc will start getting confused and it will be hard to tell which version they are meant to be about if it's not specifically specified which not many people do.
4. I only ever read the first page of the forum when I come back, if there are so many new things that they dont fit onto one page then I just dont worry about the rest. As it is, if I leave it even a day before coming back the page is almost full on either board. Mixing them would mean a HUGE list of new posts upon each return.
On the for side, it does make people more likely to read all the posts if they're on one board.
I just think on the whole though it really makes it too confusing for new people or non regular visitors which is on the whole most of your customers, just the silent ones however. There are maybe 20/30 of us that regularly post here and we definitely dont represent the majority of your customers :) We can find our way around no matter what, the newer customers are the ones who we have to think about ;D
I might however suggest modifying the board slightly to make it more noticable that there are other boards and to make it easier to jump to them. Possibly copy the quick jump drop down menu to the top of the board as well as the bottom.
-
I like mess, i like complicated, join the two boards, if people want to report bugs report them in the current version of their MJ. I always go to MJ 8 to see what's new and i don't like very much to go back and choose MC9 board to see other things. If you want to keep the boards separated make a new one of Off-Topic things, not e-music not plugins not development...just off-topic, where we can report news, curious things, a place to community join and debate different things with direct relation or not with MJ or MC
-
So will there be a separate Media Jukebox 9 and Media Center 9? If so then keep the forums separate.
Also, after starting Media Center 9, on the main page, the Interact link takes you to the Media Jukebox 8 forum instead of the Media Center 9 forum which is really confusing!

What is the differnce between the $3.99 champagne and the one for $4.99, Does the one for $3.99 come without bubbles.
My vote for two seperate boards. I have decided to stick with version 8 for now since I have the version that still supports DVD and TV, and I have a method of madness to organize my Digital photos at this time that I have grown used to. Just my 2 and 1/3 cents

$4.99 bottle comes with the Alka-Seltzer. Makes bubbles and clears away the cobwebs later.

>> Does the one for $3.99 come without bubbles.
No, but my head hurt later
-
I go with those who say separate forums with an easy way to jump to the one you want.
-
Salut, hi folks.
I just come out from a PhD dissertation (we say "soutenance" in french) of one of my student. All went well and as usual we had some drinks and food afterwards. So.. I'm under the nice and warm effect of Champagne. ..
Ah yes the main topic was about merging MJ8 and MC9 forums, right ? Well, since the split in different forums, I feel a bit lost navigating from one forum to the other. -May be some quick link would help ? - But I don't really mind and I will be happy with any solution as long as the friendly an warm feeling on MJ forums stays alive.
Now about Champagne:
Now Drinking Cheep Champagne ($3.99 a bottle)
How can a bottle of Champagne be cheap ??
It's either real Champagne and the price does not matter (although I think that for $3.99 you can't get real Champagne) or it is not. On this side of the North Atlantic Ocean we call this type of wine: "mousseux" (wine with foam).
Champagne is a way of life:
You pop it with pride, you drink it with style, you feel it inside.
Champagne is part of those rare moments in life when you feel that everything's right and the smile of your beloved one is all that matters in the entire universe.
It's the witness of those moments when your heart feels something close to the ultimate joy.
How can such a delicate and elegant beverage associated with profound feelings be cheap ?
just wondering... and yes I just had about 3 glasse of real Champagne..
(was my english correct & understandable ?)

Christian,
Your language was perfect. You said it beautifully.
The bubbles must make the brain cells happy.
Thanks,
Jim

You're right Jim the bubbles must have some effects on the langage section of the brain.

Keep separate (my vote)...too much 'noise' on the MJ 8.0 board.
-
Clarify 'noise' and give some examples

>> Clarify 'noise' and give some examples
and put them in order by 'Noise' level
I did pickup 2 Gift boxes\bottles (about $10) for Martini & Rossi 'Asti' Sparkling wine I think we will have that with dinner on the 25th since I always liked it anyway.
-
Enough allready... I vote for separate forums.
I think there is more 'real' information in the v9 board as it is visted more by 'hard core' users that have a greater experience with jukeboxe's.
-
Thanks for the feedback. We'll leave it as two boards. We'll fix the link to Interact, but it won't get done immediately. For now, you can use the "Boards" link.
Thanks again.

Hey Jim,
Just wondering, have those two re-designs that you guys were showing us ages ago been totally scrapped because they were truely great designs.
What happened with those? I was really into them.

Yes

How come? They were both gorgeous and would have really given the site a new lease of life.
-
How come?
They Lost The Code, And Then They Changed The Forum Program.

That really sucks because a website redesign can really revamp a companies image and make people think it has a whole new lease of life.
It can give a totally new image to the company overall as it is in the end, the only side of the company image that the users get to see.
This site works well and is functional but not the most modern or wildest of designs.
They were both strong powerful designs that really made you take notice.

I'd almost bet that most 'new' users stumble across MJ-MC the same way I did. A search for an all-in-one somewhere else. Once here, you immeadiatly notice the forums are the most lively thing going. The ad always stays the same. So what? I don't wanna browse thru that stuff anyway. It's the program I'm interested in.
This site is fine. Most of the time I don't look at anything besides these forums. Give me programming for MJ-MC anyday.

thats what he is talking about the html pages in the forum.
there was two really nice page formats that made the forum really look nice.

Did it make the forums any better besides the look? This is still better, in some respects, then the old boards. And it ain't exactly old....
-
no but it looked cool
