Title: Media Server legal issues
Post by: koko on October 30, 2003, 06:37:28 pm
I would like to allow a friend connect remotely to my media server, but I am concerned about the copyright laws. Does anybody if this is a violation?

I don't think it is not a violation as long is the stream is not a public demostration and has 3 or fewer friends listening.

The use you're talking about is a gray area, I think.  If it's for "personal use", it's allowed.  If it's more "public", it's not.

One of the reasons we limited Media Server to three connections was to prevent a use that was clearly not legal or reasonable -- 1000 users connected, for example.

That said, the jury is still out.  We will know in 5 or 10 years.

Thank you for asking.
