This is probably the worst conveivable newbie question, but I've really got problems downloading the plug-ins from the MJ homepage.
I've used both Mozilla and Internet Explorer, yet all I can download are tiny dummy files of 251 bytes.
How do you get the real things?
-
somthing must be wrong
I just tried it on a plug-in and it worked just fine.
-
Try right clicking on the link with IE and doing "save as" to save the mjp file on your desktop. Then execute the file by double clicking on it.
There is a small section on this you can find in the FAQ.

First off, thanks for your attention. :)
I think the problem comes from me trying to download from a university computer pool. It's probably the firewall, as I have found something in the FAQs regarding plug-in download probs.
"In some cases, uninstalling a firewall has been necessary. Disabling it should have worked but did not."
Is there any way for me to obtain these plug-ins (skins too) without making an armed assault on the computer center and forcing the staff to uninstall the firewall? Otherwise, I'm kinda screwed.
-
Update: I seem to have a fantastic day, as my last download retry netted me no less than 374 bytes in one large chunk! If this trend goes on, I'll have my first complete plug-in file in 4th quarter of 2307.

if you right click and save, then open the file as jimh stated, and open the file in a text editor like THe FAQ states you will see the HTML link to download.
it should look somthing like
[Package]
Name=MP3 Encoder
Action=UNZIPDIR
Version=2.0.51
URL=http://www.musicex.com/mediajukebox/mj_data/plugins/enc_mp3.zip
[Action]
File1=*.*
File1Action1=COPY_PLUGINDIR
File2=enc_mp3.dll
File2Action1=REGISTER

Thanks, KingSparta and JimH! That did it for me.
Looks like the "Problems downloading plug-ins" FAQ explained it all along, but I didn't recognize that it already applies before starting to download. So I wanted to ignore it until the downloads were done. Wrong order of proceedings. :)
I hope I don't qualify myself as a complete retard now, but I think the system of little files used to download the main files is a little bit... confusing, at best.
Notwithstanding, thank you very much for your help.

well really you should not have that problem, for some reason your OS \ Explorer is not working correctly.
-
Hehe... It's not as much an OS problem as it is a "download files and carry them home on floppies" problem.

ok, well thats the reason then
if they do remove support for MJ8 and they will given time this is the way users can get MJ8 working again once they reinstall windows or something (as long as they keep a backup).
