Hi everyone,
Does anybody know if you can backup the 'protected' tracks on the Creative Labs Zen to your PC harddrive with Media Jukebox? If it can't do it, are there any other utilities anybody can suggest?
Thanks,
Adz

What kind of protected files are you wondering about. DRM wma files?

No, they are MP3's, but are 'locked' in some way, so you can't back them up to your PC's hard drive.
There was a utility called JBProtect, by www.devconcept.com, for the original Creative Labs Jukebox 1, (Nomad or DAP-Digital Audio Player,) but it doesn't work on later models like the Zen.

If the files cannot be copied to the hard drive, either manually or with Creative's software, it probably won't work with us either. I can test it if you send me one of the files, but you probably can't do that because of the protection.

No, that's the trouble, you can't get them off of the Zen. They must have some sort of marking, tag, or whatever that the Zen sees and then won't allow them off the drive. The files don't expire after a certain time, they will play forever on the hard drive that is currently in the player, but you just can't get them off if you want to put them on an upgraded drive. The hard drive also has a custom format that DOS/Windows cannot see. It's really annoying all round!!

Creative Labs are not very helpful either!

Adz,
We currently implement the authorized support from Creative, so if they can't do it neither can we. This might change, but for now this is how it is.

Thanks for the reply!
It's just such a shame that Creative won't let you back up the tracks, (which you've paid for with the unit!!) There's some really good stuff on there that will be lost, just because of a hard drive upgrade. It doesn't make any sense to me.
