Title: Simple Network Control: Anything out there?
Post by: waltercr on November 04, 2003, 09:06:08 pm
I am looking for some simple way of controlling media center over a network. I have one computer running Homeseer to run all my x10 and yet another running media center.

With winamp I had a plug in that gave me a web page I could hit to play/pause/next/prev, and therefore I was able to program homeseer to respond to a given house code to talk to my computer running winamp and tell it to stop/pause/etc. I am looking for something similar in Media Center as so far have not been able to find anything.

Anything out there? Anybody interested in writing anything?

You mean like the Remote Server?

Tools->Options->Startup->Run Remote Server on port XXX?

You check the box, set the port and then connect to the IP address of that machine on that port and you have a webpage to control MC like what you describe. Not sure if that's what you mean, though.

netremote?  I've played around with it a bit.  It wasn't too difficult to get working.

I was playing around with using Homeseer to control Media Center on another machine via the Remote Server funciton. When I issue a command (such as play a certain playlist), I basically give Homeseer the link to the function in Remote Server as a file to execute. But when I do this, it launches Internet Explorer in a new window. Does anyone know of a way to execute the command and suppress the new window opening?
