I'm just about ready to pull the trigger and purchase MC 9. I love the interface, cataloguing, tagging, etc. One thing, though, concerns me. I can't seem to play AAC files. I've got the latest itunes installed, I've checked Quicktime files in the file preferences option, but when I try to play the files right clicking on the directory and choosing "Play in Media Center" nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

i think the Itunes ACC files only works on Itunes
at least thats what i have heard here in the forum
something to do with they are encrypted to only work on Itunes
not sure if that is true or not But Matt from J river Said Somthing Like That.

I've got a number of protected files from iTunes that all play fine in MC. They should work. Try posting your system info here (In MC, it's under the Help menu). But with the latest iTunes and Quicktime installed, they should play. I am pretty sure that MC uses Quicktime to play them, so make sure that you have the very latest Quicktime.....
Don't let this issue prevent you from buying MC, because it should work.

Try looking in the video section of your library.
The mp4 (or whatever it is) file type is treated as a video file by mc. The files play fine and sound great.
I think someone got them into the music section of the library but I'm not sure.

We don't directly support AAC, but you may be able to use the Winamp plug-in for it. Also downloading the latest version of Quicktime might do it.
Try a search here for more on this.

If you find the files are appearing in the video section of MC you can go into the tag info section and change the media type from video to audio and then they will appear in the correct place...

I'll look in the video section. I do have the latest Quicktime/Itunes installed. I did a search and read the Ipod section but I kind of stopped when I saw you need to reformat the IPOD blah, blah, blah.
My situation is this: I have about 725 classical and jazz cd's (mainly classical) encoded as ape files. I also have about 75 pop cd's as aac and mpc files. The ape and mpc files work to perfection. The aac files are MIA. I'll try your suggestions when I get home.
Thanks for all the quick responses.

You may need to update MC. 9.1.291 is current.
