Hi guys !
Wondering if I can use/recommend MC as an image tags management software.
Could any of you in the development team tell me which method you use to save tags in images (particularly JPEG and TIFF) ?
Do you use APP1 (EXIF) container and/or APP13 (IPTC) or some other tagging method ?
If you use EXIF and/or IPTC, which fields do you support ?
Thank you very much for the information.

Short Answer: EXIF, for example:
2160 x 1440 - 1.4 MB

- F/4.8 - 1/500 sec.
Focal Length: 8 mm
Metering: ?
White Balance: ?
Flash: No
JPEG Quality:
Orientation: Normal
Exposure Program:
Exposure Bias: 0

MC reads EXIF.
MC tags JPEG's using an XML APPID block. The tags are fast, lightweight, unintrusive, and easily added / removed.
Searching the forums will probably yield more discussion of MC's JPEG tagging.

Thank you Matt for your precise answer :)
It's a pity MC doesn't support IPTC tagging.
While EXIF tags are usually considered "read-only" (containing the "original" facts of a picture) - even if some do have a "write" purpose - IPTC tags are on the other hand used by professional photographers to tag their images with their "additional" information and somehow remain "industry"-compliant (especially with agencys' databases).
Since most the softwares that come with digital cameras are real crap (even those coming along with several thousands dollars "high-end" pros' cameras), MC could come as a genuine replacement for those... but EXIF/IPTC tags (re-)writing is a requirement.
Maybe something "to keep behind the ear" ;)
BTW, have you ever thought of allowing users to make mixed "audio/photo" programmable playlist (something like: at time "t1", play "track" from time "start"; at time "t2", display "image" using blending "effect"; at time "t3"...) ? You have everything you need in MC (out of the "timed" playlist) to make of it the best musicalized/commented slide-shower I'd ever seen (including configurable IR remote control, sound DSP-ing, etc...).
;D

IPTC is too limited to hold everything. (unless you make a crazy unreadable "Comment" string to hold extra data or something)
So to support the flexible database engine of MC we needed to create a more flexible JPEG tagging system.
We'll support other flexible standards when / if they emerge.

You can make the mixed playlist now. Making it programmable may well happen in the next version.
Thanks.

Yep. Have to agree to that... though our "engineering" point-of-view sometime's not enough to convince users and/or (especially) salesmen ;D ;D ;D

This is great news ! ;D ;D ;D
Thanx again for your answering.
