MC is an incredibly powerful and flexible product.
So it seems odd to me that in the area of managing CD information that it is pretty weak.
The best freeware rippers and players allow you to choose where you get the CD info from - either an online database, CD player.ini or CD-Text. They also allow you to export the information to cdplayer.ini, once you have it in the format you want.
MC doesn't appear to give you the choice of whether to get the info from CD Text or cdplayer.ini. If the CD has CD text then we don't have the option of using cdplayer.ini.
I've come across this problem a few times when a MC audio CD burn has garbled the CD Text. Editing cdplayer.ini with another app has no effect on MC. It still reads the garbled CD Text.
EAC provides a good model as to how to manage this information well.
I also know of an app [not freeware] that allows you to fill CD information from a playlist, which is useful for compilations and CD's with no CD-text [or garbled CD text].
In my opinion, in this area, MC is weaker than the best freeware alternatives.
Any chance of more functionality and flexibility in what is a core element in any ripping/playing application?

As I am sure you have noticed, MediaCenter is an evolution process . . . .
If these guys see a weakness, a true need, or a markedly better way of doing something they will find a way to make it work and improve MC.
It may not happen until MC10, but if something that is pointed out to them makes sense, sooner or later it will be!

We'll take a look at this for version 10. I can't promise anything at this time. At least MC shouldn't be garbling any more CD-text since that bug was fixed.
