Maybe someone can tell me a better way to do this.
Let's say I have an imported AND tagged ape music file that I want to edit (like remove applause on a live track).
Right now, the only way I know is convert it to wav, and use Goldwave to edit the wav file, and then reconvert to ape, reimport and then retag.
There must be an easier way. Anyone have a better way?

I'm curious to how Goldwave does it. Does it just cut off the end of the track at the selection point or does it roll off (attenuate) at a user defined rate? If it's the former than you might as well use MC's Media Editor. It will still convert the ape to wav (but without your intervention). You can then cut off the applause and save back as an ape within ME. Not sure if tag info is saved, though.

Here is the process I've come up with: First I use convert format to convert the ape file to wav. Then I edit it with Goldwave as desired. Then I use convert format to reconvert to ape, all the tag info seems to remain, except the image, which is gone, but I can live with that.
Goldwave lets me fade in/out making removing applause easy and sounds good.

I use Media Editor for the same sort of thing, To Crop/Fade the start & end of tracks. It will handle the conversion from any format that MC supports (i think, but definitely ape). MC will also remember most of the TAGs.
Two little anoyances though:
I find it resets the name tag to the filename so i have to re-tag that, but better than having to do them all.
Also, if you edit an ape file, when you try to save it, it always defaults to saving wav (i think). Anyway, it doesn't remember what your original file was to default to, which would be nice....

I also use Media Editor to crop the "junk" off the ends of the file. And I would also really like it if ME would remember the original file type when editing, I occasionally forget to change it back to .ape, and have to convert it later.
I would also love it if ME could allow you to adjust the equalizer settings while listening to a song, and then save the track with those adjusted equalizer settings once I have it sounding the way I want. I have quite a few live 'bootleg' recordings, and they don't always sound the greatest. I can usually equalize the harshness away to an extent, but it's a real nightmare to
1) pick a selection to preview
2) adjust the equalizer
3) preview
4) repeat steps 2 & 3 about 15 times until I like the result
5) write down the equalizer settings
6) select the entire track
7) re-adjust the equalizer to match the way I liked it in step 4
8) save
Having the equalizer be available while listening to the track, then remember those settings when I go to apply it would be GREAT!
