Title: Media Jukebox 8.0.400
Post by: Nikolay on November 18, 2003, 03:18:52 pm
A new build of Media Jukebox is available:
[ Media Jukebox 8 is no longer available.  Please download Media Jukebox 12 (http://www.mediajukebox.com). ]

This build does not contain any new features -- just a change in WMA handling.

I upgraded to 8.0.400 and now the converter says that WMA files are an 'unsupporte type'. Tried deleting and downloading the  WMA converter, but no joy. What gives?

Everytime I upgrade this program - it gets worse!  When I first purchased this program last spring it was running flawlessly - then I upgraded it when they notified me and it crashes 1 out every 3 times I play a WMA song.  I just upgraded it tonight and it crashed 8 times - it's turning into a piece of junk.  I can't trust it to play my music anymore.......

Same problem here with WMA to MP3 or Ogg conversions.

Just upgraded to MJ 8.0.400 and now WMA is unsupported but MJ can still play that format.

OS: Windows 2000 Pro SP4

Unfortunately beerman is not blowing smoke. I have been loyaly using MJ Plus for about 2 years now and have found small problems creeping in on each new release aswell. Not that I am complaining, this is a great product.

If anyone has any idea how to get WMA file conversions working again, please speak up...

WMA conversion is no longer supported in MJ due to licensing restrictions.

JRiver Media Center will still convert WMA files that are NOT copy protected.

Details are here:

If I own a CD and rip it, could that still be copy-protected?  I am considering converting my uncompressed WAVs to save space, but don't want to convert to a format that is going to screw me up in the future.

Also, is MJ part of MC?  If not, what capabilities does MJ give that MC does not?

Conversion doesn't add protection in either product.

If you have MC installed, there is a workaround here:

www.mediajukebox.com/license

Be sure to use IE as your browser.  Make sure what you buy is what you want.

Title: Re:Media Jukebox 8.0.400 - WMA Radio Errors
Post by: Develish on August 17, 2004, 09:31:55 am
With MJ 8.04

When trying to listen to certain radio stations listed in Web Media, I get the following error:
Playback Engine: Media Jukebox is unable to acquire license for this file.
Windows Media Error:  0xC00D0026

Similarly I get errors for Realplayer based stations.

I cannot find ANY help. In the "help" files, or on this forum. The support level of JRiver really leave too much to be desired, and I am reaching breaking point.

Would serious appreciate any help that can be provided.

TIA

I have the latest build as of today. When I try to play a song, no sound comes out and the progress indicator csampers across the time-line is about five seconds.

And I recall this used to be the best when it came to working with tags. No longer.

make sure you are using the correct output mode (direct sound, asio, wavemapper, etc) in the playback options. sounds like you are in disk writer mode.

OK, November 2004 here. I had been transferring all my cassettes to my hard drive using MJ 7, they were by default converted into WMA. I now want to convert them to MP#- and am getting this unsupported file format message. I can't change unsupportted file format to something else? They play in MJ 8- and are hardly copyrighted- many are recordings off of radio and elsewhere. What gives?

This program crashes constantly when I try to import media files.  it's starting to look like a real waste of time.

It shouldn't happen.

Please try importing a portion of your disk at a time to see if you can find a file it's crashing on.  We'd like to see the file.

I am having the same problem as mipongolo. I cannot read the file it is hanging on due to the length of the path and file name.

I've just reinstalled onto an XP box (previously win 98). The program keeps crashing when it tries to read any CD's. Has anyone got any ideas what's causing it ?

Cheers

Hi. New here, and haven't as yet determined which product to purchase (20 days left on trial period).

It may help to know if Media Jukebox is still being developed, or is all the effort now going into Media Center?

I'm only interested in managing audio files, but I do like a couple of features in MC not found in MJ (customizing the X-10 remote, and the Theater View).

No, nov 2003 was the last fix and that was dealing with windows media files, and not much more after 2002 since they were working on Media Center 9

Media Center 11 Is The Way To Go

Looks like I missed the party. Had this sofware heavily reccomended to me, but ever since I installed it I've had regular crashes and conflicts. Some seem to be related to the graphics.
I thought those days had gone, with software these days being more robust without these oh so familiar problems....
Also, I discover I can't convert wma files over to a more friendly format like ape, I need the space..! So that means I have to reimport all my cds so I can have the priviledge of listening to them.

This program doesn't seem reliable to me and I don't have time to faff around with dodgy software. Shame, we could really do with a solid alternative to the stodgy windows media player.

Finally, what's really swung the decision  is, reading the above posts....

(Im running WindowsXP Home on a computer with a fast spec.)

Ho Hum. Next stop, the uninstall button......
Title: Re: Media Jukebox 8.0.400
Post by: Alex B on January 27, 2005, 12:48:58 pm
And the next stop after the MJ8 uninstall button should be this: Media Center 11.0.180 Beta Available (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=25759.0) (Or newer if available). Unless you really like to miss the party.

I started with MJ8 about three years ago. On that time it was the best I could get. Hardware and operating systems have changed a lot since then and that might be too much for the old program.

Media Center 11 has a 30-day try out period. It is on alpha/beta stage, but it is already quite stable. If something unstable comes up it is usually fixed quickly since the development team is working on it.

I don't think there is any similar program that can compare with it. I have tried them all, I think.

P.S. Of course there is also the current Media Center version: Media Center 10 (http://www.jrmediacenter.com/). It's not old.

Aha. It seems I have been misled. I got the prompt to go for Jukebox from Monkey's Audio. Maybe their text is old..So Media Center is the replacement for Jukebox, is that the thing? Ok. I'll take your advice and go forth and try again in the search for the holy grail of music handling progs..
Thanks Alex..

Err, I might not get it right away,, 17Mb on dialup.....! Mmmmm. I might wait 'til I get broadband..

Well, you could look at it like that.
I get the impression that it's more of an encouragement to change over as that is where they are putting their resources and developement.
They are certainly ambitious, but as someone mentioned earlier, it's still not that expensive, especially with the current discount, (which is really about the right price. I agree $40 is a little too much for this program at the moment and I doubt I would have purchased it at that price..) ,considering what you get for your money, though, it's worthwhile .
The question is, where are they going to go with it in the long run...
There's a lot of competition for programs like this..Everyone seems to want to look after your media these days..

No

Mostly it had to do with I think a windows media license issue dealing with security of bought media, i think if you could find 8.0.399 that would allow you to continue with working with older windows media files. this was at the same time microsoft was dealing with security and put out updates for windows media.

by the way:

Media Center Is Normally $39.98, but now $24.98 for a limited time Acording to there web pages.

and no one is forcing you to do anything.

Don't post your code, it will be revoked. Please start a new thread with more details on what you are trying and how it is failing. Also, check the FAQ at the top of this board, there's helpful info there. Make sure that your system clock is correct, that's a pretty common failing.
