The Beatles / Let It Be - Naked released today, is not a CD, no CD logo and it says it's "copy controlled" on the back. Has anyone ripped it for MC use? If it can't be done, I won't buy it. I guess that's all we can do, refuse to buy "defective" merchandise.

wa-wa-wa-what? :o

Is it EMI?
If so if you have a plextor drive, you can rip/copy it. Plextors don't even recognise CD protection.

Ditto for the Lite-On DVD-ROM and the Lite-ON CD burner I own. (Yay!)

I checked out the US version, not copy protected, and it rips just fine. There is no CD logo on it anywhere though. The scans I saw did have copy protected written on the back, must be from some other country.
The bad thing, is copy protection is coming. I know why they are a doing it, but it sure make ripping to MC problematic.

yeah i bought the us version and there is no copy protection and i ripped it perfectly. it sure is a treat to listen to as well!

Went to all-nite K-mart, bought the CD, ripped into MC 9.0 perfectly!
I've been comparing it to the original - wow - sooo much better! Let It Be should've been released this way in the first place.
Thanks Paul & Ringo ! 8)
edit: Ripped w Easy CD Extractor with TDK VeloCDR 4800.

This may be true in some cases, but not all. I have a Plextor drive and a CD from Paddy McAloon. It is EMI. I cannot rip it.

But, since you suggested it, I tried my Sony DVD-RW drive and guess what? Rips it just fine. . . I am happy. it was the only CD in my entire collection that I couldn't rip.
thanks!

I find it amazing that the recording industry does not seem to realize or care that they are alienating customers.
Those who are determined and have the technical skills will take this as a challenge to find a way to over-ride their copy-protection.
Look at the situation with police traffic radar . . . . everytime they come out with a new radar to thwart radar-detector users there comes a new generation of radar-detectors on the market. Same with computer viruses and anti-virus software.
This creates a never-ending cycle of action/response. . . . in the process many will be hesitant to purchase CD's, and in some cases perhaps even spark additional 'pirating' as the industry's restrictions on how we can use the music we paid for will make many feel justified in doing so.

If you use "Exact Audio Copy" to rip it, it will work.
Exact Audio Copy rips also Copy controlled CD's

I also had problems when trying to rip copy protected CD's. I found a program called Easy CD-DA Extractor from www.poikosoft.com. I rip them with it then import into Media Centre.

Where do I set that?

Unfortunately, it doesn't work on copy protected WMA files:

For "Exact Audio Copy" you don't have to set anything,
Just copy it (it will take much much longer than a not copy controlled CD but it will work)
