Title: Not everything is backed up
Post by: MarkCoutinho on November 21, 2003, 03:28:02 am
I've bumped on this a couple of times now:

- I edit some songlyrics
- I backup
- I restore this backup on another p.c.
- at least the latest change (i.e. lyrics of 1 song) is not in the restore.

I tried to do it another way: after before backing up I closed and restarted MC - same problem, though.

Bug?

I would first check my options . . .
Options-->>
General-->>
Importing & Tagging-->>
-->>Update Tags When File Info Changes <<-- this should be checked.
If it is not, your tags changes will not be saved.

I have also a tagging import problem. This is existing since Media Jukebox 8 and is still there ! : when I import a big list of songs(1400) already tagged with another program(Musicmatch Jukebox because the supertagging fonction is very efficient, the rest is better here), about 10 percent of the songs are missing their Genres ! They are imported as "Unassigned" or "Other" (about 5% each) !! I have my own names of Genre and I don't know why some are not transfered (no special caracters). It's so bad that because of it I don't use a lot Media Jukebox and now Media Center (I was hoping it was fixed !).
PS : All the songs are correctly displayed with their Genre with other programs such Windows Media Player

Please HEEEEELP !!!

Thanks LisaRCT,

but in my opinion this can't be the cause of the problem. Because it's the MediaCenter-database that is backed up and not the tags themselves.
And that is where it sometimes goes wrong.

Anyone else a suggestion?

Bump.

I still have this problem and it's driving me nuts!
Anyone with a good suggestion?
Is it a bug?

Hey Mark

I just noticed this too. However, I know what the problem may have been in my case. My main library was open on both computers at the same time. I'm usually pretty good about closing MC on one while working on the other ( I wish MC had a "lock" library option to avoid this).

Anyway, I backed up the library I had been working on for 2 weeks, and restored it on the laptop. This worked insofar as it restored my new playlists, but I noticed that many (although not all, which I can't figure out) of my tags had not been updated after all.

Can't be the problem in my case: I have only 1 p.c. at home.
I even close and re-open MC before I backup, hoping this would help. But that's not always so.

It's really weird: I backup a library in which I can see a edited field and in the restored library this field appears to be unedited. Just the last edited field it is, mainly.

Someone at MC perhaps for a suggestion, please?

For me it's the [date] field.

MC correctly stores the calculated [date (year)] field into the id3v1 "year" tag, and the id3v2 "TYER" tag. I went into options and asked MC to also save the [date] field in the file as a fair bit of time has gone into getting exact release dates.

MC won't store the date tag to file. Is that by design?

I'd also LOVE it if MC would store the Date tags.
I never realised it didn't and I've started putting the extra effort into using the exact release date of albums for my songs so I can break them up nicely into months.

I'd HATE to have this just stored in the DB and not the files themselves in case anything goes wrong with my library every :(

Seems like latest build repaired this bug.  :-*
