Title: Tagging import bug ?
Post by: memes on November 24, 2003, 04:25:55 pm
I have a tagging import problem : when I import a big list of songs(1400) already tagged with another program(Musicmatch Jukebox because the supertagging fonction is very efficient, the rest is better here), about 10 percent of the songs are missing their Genres ! They are imported as "Unassigned" or "Other" (about 5% each) !! I don't know why some are not transfered (no special caracters). It's really bad because I sort my songs mostly by Genre...This bug was existing in Media Jukebox 8 and I was hoping it was fixed in Media Center...
PS : All the songs are correctly displayed with their Genres with other programs such Windows Media Player
Please HEEEEELP !!!

Someone else will know more about this, but I believe an empty genre field is interpreted as 0 or blues for ID3v1 tags.  This could be part of your problem.  The files may not actually have a genre set.

it's like jimH said, but also with ID3v1 tags not all programs use the same genre list normaly.

so "0" in musicmatch id3v1 could be Un-Assigned where in Winamp and MJ\MC could mean something else.

there also was extended tags that most did not suport and if they did they even more did not match.

musicmatch also created there own taging system that was not compatable with many programs to include MJ where it would imbed ID3v1 type tags near the end of the mp3

the whole thing is a mess and no one company is at fault.

Of course they have ! All songs have a genre and with Windows Media Player or Musicmatch Jukebox they appear all. 10% are missing with MC.

I didn't put any special caracters in the genre, just kind of things like "Funk Oldie" or "Slow"..., I think everybody don't use only the standard genres listed. So I don't understand why ALL the genres appear completely normally with Windows Media Player, and also in the windows property of the mp3 file, but is empty for 10% after import in MC ? If that's not a bug...
If somebody could make the test, you would believe me better.
