Title: Replay Gain target value updated by its creator!

..and because there has just been some changes in audio analysis, now it would be a good time to do it

Not sure i folow u here ....

replay gain affects the volume level..

how does increasing gain add more noise..apart from what was there to start with ?

I imagine if the sound card's DAC and preamp contributes a bit of noise, then turning up the volume does amplify this additional noise. The question is ... is it twice the noise, or negligible? I don't know what you're using, ... but it is negligible, insignificant, nada for my Revo's analog outs. I would also believe that it's absolutely nada, if the S/PDIF output is employed(?)

Post by: Matt on November 26, 2003, 08:39:18 am: It is exactly the same as adding 6 more dB as an adjustment. No extra noise is introduced because of this. (internally everything is 32-bit and either way it's just one volume adjustment if you adjust replay gain or not)

The only problem with us changing is that files we've tagged in the past use an 83 dB reference. Since it doesn't really bring anything new to the table, we're not sure it's worth the troubles.

Post by: xen-uno on November 26, 2003, 05:20:04 pm: MC's RG implementation is an island, where MP3Gain's tag based (as opposed to actually altering the data...it will do either) RG is supported by the more advanced players (except MC). Album based RG is not supported in MC...yet.
