Title: Web Server
Post by: jiistme on November 25, 2003, 06:42:18 pm
I use the web server occasionally, but I would like one thing changed if possible. Right now (as of v9.1.308) the playing now section only shows the song title. It would be really nice if it showed the artist as well and possibly even the CD Title.

Thanks

Sorry, I might have not conveyed what I meant very well. In options/startup under the Action section you can setup up a remote server. When I connect to that remote server via a web browser and go to the playlist it only shows the name of the song playing...and artist name would be very, very nice. Album title would be useful too, but not nearly as useful as artist name.

This is not to knock the feature...I love the remote server feature and it seems to be very well done. This is just a small part that would be a nice addition.

(Btw, thanks for the insanely quick response - you suprised myself (I knew you guys were quick, but that was really quick) and a co-worker of mine.)

Help file:
Start RemoteServer on any port.

Open a browser and type:
[http://x.x.x.x] where x.x.x.x is the IP address of the machine running RemoteServer.

That's 25 cents American.  Or one German beer.

thanks for the forum web remote help file, still it would maybe be better in the MC9 help file with a bit more info.

I did get it working how ever (playing now)

but i also got a Media Core error when trying to go into media library Artist\Album

this is with 40,000+ files right now

Some documentation on this feature along with some options to customise it (even just let us edit a .css file that controls how the pages are rendered) would be AMAZING - it could be a VERY powerful feature yet it is just too crude right now :(

I think King takes the beer...

Jeez...i never even knew there was such a thing tucked in there.

Defnitely supprt what Nila said.

I imainge its current use would be to control MC from a living room computer when the server is located in the basement.Though one could always use MC client itself.

Or a very simple control interface to some mobile unit like a wireless organiser or mobile.

This looks just like the Web Remote plugin...  except with WebRemote, I get to specify a name/password for added security.

I remember someone asking for documentation about WebRemote - but I've lost the bubble on it.  I also remember being excited because it looked like a great way to use browser scripts to control MC.

JRiver:  Why the built-in Remote Server that does less than the Web Remote plugin (i.e. security).  Is the documentation available?

Another thing I noticed that would be nice is the playlists...if they could be organized using the same folder structure that is in MC. I put all my personal playlists under a specific folder so they are easier to find. If the webpage for the playlists had the same folder structure, it would simplify finding playlists.

Btw, for the person who mentioned just connecting to MC to make the change. I have a good reason for not doing that. All my computers are downstairs in my computer room, but my wife had an old laptop that she likes using upstairs. I don't know of a way to control an instance of MC that is on another computer except with software like VNC and PC Anywhere and I would prefer to not use that if possible since the web interface is much more efficient and convenient.

One more note - nice help file Jim.  ;D
