Title: Media Center 9.1.313 available
Post by: Matt on November 26, 2003, 12:38:30 pm
Media Center 9.1.313 is available.

This is the latest build.  There may be some known (and unknown) bugs.

The latest known stable version of 9.1 is here:
http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/download.html

The latest build of 9.1 is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter91313.exe

9.1.313 History:
1. Fixed: OGG input plugin would not install on some systems.

9.1.312 History:
1. Fixed: Audio CD burn track boundaries could get "out of sync" especially when there were a large number of tracks.
2. Fixed: WMA decoder was intermittently dropping a very small portion of the end of the file.
3. NEW: File tooltip lists the playlists a file is in.
4. Changed: Search control disappears sooner when sizing MC to a small width.
5. Changed: Database save frequency decreased for very large libraries.

No that can't be true - I downloaded Build 311 a few hours ago with the plan to install it when I get back from lunch (I love steak). Just doubleclicked the installer and refreshed the browser-window. And what did I just see? A new build is out.

Is this the right time to do an install or should I wait some minutes more?

Thanks guys, very well done.

not mentioned so I presume it's still a bug - SDK?

Seeing some odd behaviour with the artist sorting.

I have the "ignore articles" option checked.  When selecting Artists (Grouped) from the tree, if I have ALL selected in the Artist pane, the sorting works correctly.  So my list might go AC/DC, Ash, The Auteurs, The Beach Boys etc etc.

If I select one of the other options (A-C, D-F), the sorting reverts to the "old" style.  So The Auteurs don't appear under the A-C option but under the S-U option, together with all the other artists beginning with The.

In short: article sorting only works when looking at the whole list, not the sub-categories... which seems like a bug to me.

Some flakiness in smartlist creation:

I tried to create a Smartlist by cloning another one as follows: in the first smartlist, I clicked in the search bar and copied its search string (which was "p=Unplayed and [Duration]=<600 and [Duration]=>180").  I then did Add Smartlist, typed a name for it, and in the search bar pasted the old search string, backspaced over the 180 and changed it to 600.  The view pane was now correctly empty.  I clicked in the pane so I could see the canonical form of my search string.  I then removed (right-click Remove) the contradictory second term (Duration: <600).  Now although the search string appeared to have the 2 terms I wanted, "Playlist: Unplayed Duration: >600", each of them nicely underlined, the view pane showed a seemingly random subset of Unplayed of all durations.  Furthermore, clicking on the Playlist term did not open a wizard to edit it (nor did one open if I right-clicked "Edit with Wizard").

On closer examination, if I click in the search string to select and copy it to the clipboard, I see (by pasting it into a text editor) it really says "p=Unplayed and and [Duration]=>600".  If I carefully click in what looks like a slightly wide space between "Unplayed" and "Duration" and backspace over the invisible middle term, I get the desired result ("p=Unplayed and [Duration]=>600").

Of course, doing it from scratch with wizards instead (Add Smartlist, Add Rule | Playlist, Add Rule |...| Duration) works fine and probably would have been easier in this case.  But then I wouldn't have been able to file this quirky bug report :)

Not really a bug with this build, but a bug all the same.
The MJViewItemAutomation interface returns view scheme tree's as if the user has selected "Populate Tree" in the view scheme. Shouldn't the MJViewItemAutomation interface only return tree nodes that are actually there?
Also, can you check that MC is registering itself properly, because I accidentaly unregistered the MediaJukebox COM component and the MC installer doesn't register it when you re-install. I'd like to be using the new getFields() function, but I have to use an older version of the Automation interface that I included in a setup of my own a while back.

Cheers,

Scott.

MC is hanging at the end of .ogg files. As far as I can tell, it doesn't matter where in the list the ogg is, or what type of file comes next. It gets to the end of the track and then hammers away at the last fraction of a second of sound while the entire system slows to a crawl. Clicking the stop button and then waiting around a minute will bring everything back to normal.

This has actually been a bug for quite a few updates now:  When ejecting the iPod, I need to close down MC first.  Attempting to eject it while MC is running gives me a "can't" message.

I'm not sure if this classifies as a "bug," but I can say for sure that I used to be able to eject the iPod without closing MC.

From previous bug threads:

*Display Playing Now and double click a track to start playback
*Use F11 to toggle into Track Info, Hairstyle and finally back to Mega-me
*You no longer have focus on the PN List (Try up and down arrow)

If you repeat the above test but have any other view besides playing now in focus before you toggle with F11, you always have focus just the way you left it when you return to Mega-me.

This behaviour is causing problems when navigating with a remote.  I could find a workaround but a fix within MC would be the best solution.

MC is hanging at the end of .ogg files.

Also, replay gain analyzation seems to be hanging on ogg files. It analyzes the first file in the queue all the way to 100%, but doesn't save the values and move on to the next file.

Maybe a bug:

If I work on a filtered list of items and put a cd in/get it out of the drive, the filtered list is gone and the "whole" library is shown (as if I clicked on "media library").
This is somewhat disturbing.

I'm experinencing crashes while resuming from pause or stopped, ecpecially if media center has been stopped with the media keys on my keyboard. First experienced this on 9.1.311, but that's when i got my new keyboard, so it might be the drivers. Using Logitech diNovo keyboard.

Tried to 'save this image as thumbnail' for a .m2v file and it didn't save the thumbnail. instead when I try watch the video now the whole video is upside down - I've tried it with other players too and MC has definitely flipped the whole video upside down :(

I've seen this as well. Inserting a CD seems to reset MC to show the entire library.

I am running MC v9.1.313 (but got same error with v9.1.311) and tried to recode some MP3 files in a lower bitrate still in MP3 format so I could download them to a portable player.  Whenever I try to do it, I get a status message saying "No conversion needed" and a pop-up dialog saying "Failed to convert".  I am using "Tools>Advanced Tools>Convert Format..."  Most all my current MP3 files are encoded at 320 bps and I've tried all the various MP3 settings (MP3, MP3 VBR, etc) that I have and get the same error.  When I convert it to Ogg Vorbis, I don't get an error.  Any ideas?

Bug:

Using audio analyzing on a specific mp3-file I get a media core crash at 39% (always!). The file can be provided.

The file has old information from a MJ-build which did no correct audio analysis (no peak level = 0%) so I have to uncheck "skip analyzed files".

One more:

Sorting in treeview is not correct, if node-name is too long. E.g.:
"Loriot erzählt Richard Wagners Ring der Nibelungen CD1/CD2" - CD2-Entry is first.

Mirko

File is "Azule Serape" from "Wes Montgomery" of the album "The Complete Riverside Collection" - 6:27 long and 5,9MB long - MP3-CBR-128

Minor niggle rather than a bug:

The logic for the tip dispayed when hovering over the Continuous and Shuffle buttons is not intuitive.

To my mind when hovering it should say what result clicking will achieve rather than the current status. It is, after all, an action button rather than a status icon. The change in the icon achieves the latter anyway.

The second line "Click it to turn off/on" would then be redundant.

When playing ogg files MC freezes (task manager shows 100% cpu usage) and the only way I can terminate MC is by using task manager.

Upon termination cpu usage goes down to 2%.

1. I have "Play Sound" set to play after ripping and burning a CD.  However, the sound does not play after burning anymore, just after ripping.  It worked a couple builds ago, so this is pretty recent issue.

I strongly disagree.  When a tool tip just says "continuous mode" I never know whether the authors intended to show what will happen or whether they intended to show what the current setting is, which means that the tool tip is basically useless.  The way it works in Media Center is completely unambiguous.

I disagree.  I find it more intuitive to show the current status, which follows the same logic as the volume fader (i.e. hovering shows you current volume setting.)

A more detailed description for the misbehaviour of MC when a CD is inserted or removed.

I understand that MC changes to CD-view, when I insert a CD - but I don't understand why MC changes the current view (e.g. filtered with a "search"-item) to a "look all".

One more:

If the album-name contains ":" the "rename file by tags" gets an error and _deletes_ the files instead of not touching them - it happened to me about 15secs ago :-/

I have all my media on one system and use Media Server to access it over the LAN.  I've noticed a bug when opening a file with MC currently closed.

With MC closed, I double click or choose one of the Right click play options on an mp3 on my desktop.  MC starts to access the library on the other system, then a pop-up says

"Warning  Please select file(s) to play."

MC won't finish opening until I hit "okay" on this pop-up.  MC then opens and nothing happens -- i.e. it does not play the file.  As long as I leave MC open, I can go back and open the file on the desktop normally, but if MC is not currently running, I get the warning pop-up.

If I switch to a local library (i.e. if I don't access the other system via Media Server) I do not get this behavior -- the files open normally.  When I switch back to using the other system's library, the issue returns.

Thanks for looking into this,

Larry

Cover art still does not display in the "Track Info" page of the "Playing Now" screen when using the Media Server to access another system.  The Cover are DOES show up in the AW and the 3D visualization screens -- it's just the "Playing Now/Track Info" screen that has the problem.  A little red "X" in a white square (i.e. a broken link symbol) appears where the cover art should be.

The cover art is obviously "getting through" to the other system via the Media Server -- it's just not appearing in this one type of window.

Bugs with Download Manager:
1. Everytime you press Ctrl-V to paste a URL, DM addes the URL twice to the download list.

2. If you do Add URL and press Ctrl-V to paste the URL in the editbox, DM adds the URL (twice) in the background and does NOT paste the URL in the Add URL editbox (and, thus, the user cannot edit the URL before pressing Ok).
