what is the best remote control for using with MC9 via a usb connection?
thanks, nick
-
The UIRT2 is USB and will work with any universal remote you have if you teach MC what to do with it. Tools/options/remotes.

My understanding is that the UIRT2 is an infrared transceiver, and that you have to build it yourself. Any recommended off-the-shelf solution?
I'm getting the strange feeling that MC9 is moving into a difficult space - it's not quite sophisticated enough for professional applications, but *way* too complicated for even quite knowledgeable home users - ie. Girder, mjextman, smartlists, etc.
-
By offering a built in plug-in MC is actually trying to make life less difficult for those who want to use a remote and do not wish to get to grips with Girder. MC's remote plug-in is very easy to set up and use.
By providing a wealth of built in smartlists new users can either just use the built in ones or use them as examples for setting up their own.

I meant that all the info I found on UIRT2 is basically about building such a transceiver from parts. Is there a commercial product that will work out of the box with MC9?
I appreciate the plug-in and I understand what it is for.
-
Yes - IRMAN from evation.com is a perfect out of the box solution but it's not USB, it's serial and it doesn't transmit IR signals out, it's only an IR receiver.
However, it works perfectly for me and was basically plug and play - no drivers or software. I just enabled the IRMAN plug-in within MC and off I went. Now I'm using Girder though which is much more powerful and I found it pretty easy to set up using the supplied .gml file in the extras directory in MC.
If you want a UIRT just go to UIRT.com.

www.uirt.com is a real estate site.

Try http://www.usbuirt.com/ (http://www.usbuirt.com/)
That's better :)

Sorry. What I should have said is haven't you heard of a google! ;D
-
so what about pc remote controls such as those made by keyspan, shuttle, and streamzap. will these not work with MC9?
-
The keyspan certainly will - but then it comes with it's own configuration software that allows you to do pretty much what you like anyway.
