Hi All,
I was just wondering with all the releases of MC, if there was some updated status on some very much needed features I was looking for.
1. Database synchronization between boxes running MC. I am desperate on this one. The Media Server works unreliably for me and I have to get a way to synconize data bewtween 2 boxes running MC9. I will even settle for a manula process that I can script once a day if need be, it just has to work.
2. Remote control of zones indepenent of console's "active" zone.
3. WAV file tagging. If this was implemented, #1 would not be as much of a problem.
Any advice given on how to solve these problems would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
John

I thought this was already possible with WMessages or MJEXTMAN.

Database syncronisation?
Are the two systems networked?
Why not just use the same library on the two boxes?
Have one reading the file on the other machine?

JRiver does not recommend accessing the same library on two different machines at the same time - there is no support for concurrent use of the same library. Nonetheless, I've done so without major problems, though maybe I've been lucky.
I agree that it would be useful to share the same library at the same time... both read and write.

This is possible to a small degree. You can access transport controls and also some DSP stuff like volume and eq which does not fit my application. What I am speaking of here is the ability to access library browse lists and covert art etc. Things that are currently limited to only the active zone.
On the database sharing thinig, I am curious of how you set that up. I tried using one machine as a master and loading that same "shared" database from another machine. This seems to work OK if everything is static, but if I try to add a disc to the database, the change is not reflected in the client side until I reboot, the exception to that is if media center is turned off on the client when the update is made. So to have synchronization I can do one of two things:
1. Reboot the client after the update.
2. Close Media Center before the update and restart it after.
Do you have this same experience?
Thanks,

If you add music to a server, you need to stop and start sharing in Media Server OR exit and re-start Media Server.
Then on the client, you need to exit and re-start MC OR switch to the default library and back again.

Hi Jim,
I'm Not sure if you got this from my first post, but the Media Server Feature is not working for me.
There are two problems.
1 When connected to a remote server in MC the sound devices seem to go haywire and I have to mess around with zone configurations to get sound going again. This "messing around" does not survive a reboot. This alone makes it a non option for me.
2. The Media Server application seems to only stream in MP3 format which makes sense if I were streaming it over the Internet, but I am talking about a LAN application here, and I want full resolution at all MC machines.
So, what I am looking for is an alternative to the Media Server application that will actually work reliably for me.
Regards,
John

John,
Media Server will work fine with many formats of audio, including lossless APE.
Can you start a thread on the problem you have, including the version you're running? Version should be the same on both PC's. A thread description that sums up the problem should attract help from others.
