I just received my iRiver iHP-120 which is seen as a amovible storage through its USB connection. I would like copy albums from MC to my iRiver using a naming scheme folder structure, exactely such as the rename function but copying the tracks instead of moving them. I failed to find any post about this question.
(I am not sure to be clear with such a poor english :-\ )

The option to move or copy is under tools/library tools. Be careful with it until you understand it. Copy a few files first.
-
I know this option but I am asking for a different thing. I would like a function working such as "rename files from properties" function but copying the files instead of moving them in order to store the selected files on my handheld according to a directory and naming scheme.

Move/Copy loses the directory structures. All files are copied to the target directory in one long list apparently. I suppose you could use Move/Copy first and then the Rename from properties command. This issue has been raised multiple times before.

I tried it but while the copy is fast (usb 2.0 speed) the rename is very slow so it is not usable.

Hi Michel,
Glad to see you on the interact after a long time.
As for a file copy command that would preserve the directory structure (i.e Artist/Albums/...) It would be a nice addition in MC as it cannot do it for now.
What I personally do to copy a whole directory structure to my firewire portable HDD is to use another tool (namely total commander) to synchronize with my Music Lib.
Sur ce, bonne journée et, A+

I cannot synchronize both music lib and handheld because the handheld is "only" 20GB device while my music lib is a lot larger. So I need really this new feature into MC.
Bonne journée à toi aussi.

or in the rename fuction a check box or combo box for "Move" And "Copy"
I have needed this a few times, and would have come in handy.

I second this idea.

If your Portable Device appears as a removable or fixed drive, try right clicking on the drive letter under CD, DVD and Handhelds and use the 'Rearrange Upload Folders' option to have the transfer create folders on your player automatically. Also, you can use the 'Set Root Directory' option to create a default location.

Try creating smartlists or playlists in MC to handle the size limitation and then synchronize the playlists.

It appears as a drive under "my computer", not under "cd, dvd and handhelds".
So right now I am copying the tracks using Windows Explorer in order to keep the folder structure :(

I'm having the same trouble...namely not being able to get my iHP-120 to show up under CDs, DVDs, Handhelds. Rather it shows up under "My Computer".
Any ideas on how to fix this?

I asked a similar question, my removable device shows up in My Computer rather than in the handheld section. The volume label in the Portable Drive plug-in must match the drives volume label, and you may need the fix that will be in the next build. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks ! But that runs once: after a successful transfer my handheld disapears from "cd, dvd & handhelds" and it reappears only after to restart MC.
Steve told about a fix into the next MC 10. Unhoppefully I cannot run MC 10 as it said trial periode expired :'(

michel,
Sorry about the licensing problems. The next build of 10 (10.0.11) should resolve this and then the problem of the drive disappearing should go away.
