Title: Crackling on RIP
Post by: Jeff W. on December 01, 2003, 05:33:15 pm
I just ripped 170+ CDs.  I used Monkey's Ape on Normal setting.
I have what sounds like record ticks.
I am using a Dell Pentium 3.06 ghz, 512 MB Ram
I bought a seperate 160 Gig Seagate Baracudda drive for the data.
I re-ripped some with secure turned on and 4x rip speed.
These clicks continue..

Any Ideas?

Hi,

Sometimes I get this problem when my computer is extremely busy. I always RIP while using other heavy programs.

And maybe your CD's are just damaged. Maybe your normal CD player corrects the errors. And your PC CDplayer just not!

Could you post your system info (from MC's help menu) here? Do you have clicks on all the ripped tracks or just some of them?

I think that I solved it!
I bumped the bios up to the latest ver.  .03
It is a Dell 8300, and never really performed as a 3 gig machine should.  I have been updating the drivers as it was a new model for them.  Well I hadn't checked for a few months.. and low and behold there was a new bios.
My crackling diappeared!
I tried going straight .wav and still had the problem.  That told me that it wasn't the encoder/decoder.  I figured that it was a computer I/O problem and went to check for the latest drivers..

Thanks for letting us know the solution. This may help others in the same situation.
