Title: Did the "Restore" rules change?
Post by: lalittle on December 02, 2003, 06:53:01 am
The license restore FAQ on the MC site used to say you had 10 restores per year -- this was in response to the "How many restores do I have" question.  However, I just noticed that this line was removed from the answer to this question.  Have the rules changed?  Do you still get 10 per year, and does the "year" start when you originally purchas MC?  Also, are the restores cumulative -- i.e. if you don't use all 10 in a year, do they roll-over to the next year, or do you lose the "left over" restores and start with 10 again?

Thanks for clarification on this,

Larry

Q: How many restores do I have left?
A: Go to the Restore Page and click on the 'e-mail' button to receive a list of your registration codes by e-mail. This e-mail also tells how many restores are available.  You have ten free restores each year and there is no limit on the number of years.

More info is on the page above.

I don't understand where you're getting that quote because when I navigate to the FAQ (which is NOT the page you linked), it no longer says this.  What it DOES say is this:

"Q: How many restores do I have left?
A: You can visit the Restore Page and click on the 'e-mail' button to get a list of your registration codes. This e-mail also tells how many restores are available."

In other words, there is no mention of the number of restores per year.

Thanks for any clarification on this,

Larry

From http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/index.html (http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/index.html) click on the FAQ link on the left.
This brings you to http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/faq/mc_faq.pl (http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/faq/mc_faq.pl), where you click on "How do I restore a license?" under "General Information".
This pops up a new window which indicates "Please see PURCHASE and LICENSE details above or visit www.mediajukebox.com/license ".
That link is redirected to http://www.musicex.com/mediajukebox/buy_faq.html (http://www.musicex.com/mediajukebox/buy_faq.html).

From the FAQ page above, you may also click on the heading "PURCHASING and LICENSE DETAILS" which brings you to this same url above, where you click on "J River MEDIA CENTER 9.0 & 9.1"
This brings you to http://www.musicex.com/mediajukebox/buy_faq_9.html (http://www.musicex.com/mediajukebox/buy_faq_9.html), the link referred to by King Sparta above.

I think we have it covered now.

Thanks -- now I see what was happening.  I was clicking on the link on the actual restore page that says "For more information, please see the FAQ" where "FAQ" is a link.  I just noticed that this is a FAQ for version 8, which doesn't seem right given that the link is on the restore page used for verison 9 as well.

I'm still curious about the other questions -- i.e. are the restores cumulative, or do you lose the unused portion of one year's "10" when the new year starts.?

Thanks again,

Larry

They are cumulative . . .  . but you can only 'cash-in' the accumulated restores after your death, at which time if you have saved up 1000 of them you get a free lifetime supply.   8)   ;D   ;)
