Title: Should I buy MJ8 or Media Center?
Post by: Arjuna on December 04, 2003, 04:16:20 pm
I have been happily putting all of my CDs on my computer using WMP.

Well, something changed when I switched HD and I do not want to use WMP, anymore. :P

I looked at a few programs to replace WMP 9, This one seems the nicest.  Better than WMP  ?

I have lurked for a few days, this is my first post.
I find that all of my files are .wma.
Gosh, Am I gona have to load all my CDs, again and save them to a different format  ?

I really have bought and paid for, all my music. I do not even know how to download music, yet.  8)
That I should find myself with some 'Big Brother Licensing problems' because I move a HD from one of my home computers to another is a good enough reason for me to find better software.

Any comments will help.
Will I have to buy the program for each of my 5 computers?

Also, I am in the process of converting all of my home 8mm video tapes to digital using Sony hardware and DVD+R disks.
Thus my question about Media Center.

Cheers to you All!

Media Center

It Seems J River Is Puting Out Media Center 10 As A Beta Today and that is basicly is MC9 with Continued Bug Fixes And Added Options.

Not Sure When They Will Be Selling It But It Should Be Soon.

Not Sure if You buy MC9 You Could Upgrade To MC10 Free Or Not.

Maybe info Will Come To Light Soon.

I would buy Media Center, even though it might have feature you feel you don't need or want. The main reason is that any significant work on Media Jukebox pretty much ceased. I think there have only been a few (as in one or two) bug-fix releases of Media Jukebox in the past year.

Thanks  :o Ok, Media Center it is.

Will I be able to work with my DVDs, mpegs or only audio stuff.

I would like to replace WMP, completely  ;)

I primarily use 2 computers at home and one at work.
Will I need to buy it 3 times?

Cheers,

AJ  ;D

Thats not possable

1. Since MS will not allow it to be uninstalled
2. Media Center Uses Some Of The Windows Media Player Files To Encode And PlayBack Windows Media Files Since The Format Is Controled By MS

MediaCenter 9.0 or 9.1 will play your wma files just as they are. Or you can convert them to mp3s of various quality levels or any other format you choose - all with MediaCenter. If your chosen format is not provided by MC it alows the use of external encoders!

MC is the best media organization application. Period. It gives you the abillity to organize multiple libraries and is very customisable.

The audio quality of the program is the highest. I haven't played around with video in MC much yet - maybe someone else will speak to this. Image quality is great - slide shows with music are easy to do. MC also supports MPi.

The support here is second to none as you may have noticed if you've been lurking around. Come and join us!

edit: you can run MC on multiple computers with 1 purchase and it will play DVD and mpeg files. VCD is one of the few it doesn't. yet.

edit: if you're not an experienced computer user my personal recomendation would be to try out version 9.0 - it's relatively bug-free and the learning curve is short and you can always move on to v9.1 (a bit steeper learning curve) or v10(if you're into beta testing)

Listening to: 'Green Onions - Booker T. And The MGs' from 'Hit The Road Stax' by 'Various Artists' on Media Center 9.0

Thanks, I am coping my first cd 'maybe' back to a folder on my newer HD.
I have not set up any properties, yet.

I stay around and share my experience.  ;)

This is so Sweet and Fast Too.   ;D
I am very Pleased Already.

Make sure you buy v10 which has just been released - or hold off and wait a little while if you want to make sure it's more stable - no point buying v9 at this point though :)

I'm sorry to disagree with you Nila, v10 was just released in beta form today, what's he suposed to do, use someone elses inferior product until v10 is ready for general release?? We're not all beta testers here you know!

V9 is a great product in and of itself and there is always the option to move to the next release if and when one wants to. In the meantime we should be encouraging people to try, buy, use and get hooked on MC. The sales of MC v9 will help J River finance the development of v10 from which we will all benefit!

Jay, a very satisfied MC v9 customer.

lol - fair enough - I have no problems with people disagreeing :)

Different opinions are what make the world the varied and gorgeous place it can be - if we all thought the same the world would be BORING!! :)

I was just saying it due to the number of explosions in the other thread.

Didn't want him becoming one too.

Does not a MC9 license work for MJ8?  (mine does)
So perhaps a MC10 license will work with MC9

That is definitely a big question.  if I get a v10 license, will I continue to be able to use v9.x? and v8.x?

Also, Jim, you said that you can use v10 for 30 days.  Is that 30 days for each build (for the first few builds)? or just 30 days total.  I'm guessing the latter.

I look forward to v10...
