I saw on the norwegian news today that the US East Coast has a few problems with snow right now. Quite amusing! If you want to see what real snow looks like, you can have a look at my website. I have put up a web photo album and a few words about last winter. In less than two weeks we had enormous amounts and we had to get it off the roof and the porches so they shouldn't collapse in the rain that was forecasted a few weeks later, and I had to dig myself around the house so we could use the front entrance on new years eve. Enjoy! ;D

The people in the lower half of the U.S. don't get snow very often and are paralyzed when it just threatens to snow let alone when they get a few inches. ;D Up north here in up-state NY (2.5 hrs souuth of Montreal) we just switch to skis. 8) (12inches/30cm and counting)

Actually no - it isn't all that much snow. The Media just likes to make a big deal of it since its the first snowstorm of the year. Actually, the media seems to like to make a big deal about anything they think will attract viewers. . .
Long Island received over 65" snow last winter - not all that significant either. Being surrounded by water tends to keep snowfall down.
Head a little farther north and the story changes. Buffalo averages 100 inches per winter, and has had over 200 during one season almost two decades ago. It is not uncommon for Buffalo to have between five and ten feet of snow on the ground at some point over the winter. As you head west on the NY Thruway you'll see quite a few homes with second-story doors but no deck or stairs. Roofs are designed to withstand large snowfalls - either with significant reinforcement or more typically steep slopes.
Several counties in NY State have budgets for maintaining snowmobile trails alongside highways. There are times during the winter where snowmobiles are the only method of transportation (actually - anything on tracks would work) with even HumVees getting stuck before the roads can be cleared.
In Cambridge, NY we had 22" of snow on the ground for Thanksgiving (Late November) last year. Another 6" fell before the weekend was over.

Hey, mastiff, you are from southern sweden. Funny how different country sweden can be if you compare lapland of sweden and skane area, wow. I know, I have lived in gothenburg but I live now in Helsinki, Finland. Sunny green south and cold north.. same her in finland. Nice to see that Media Center is not "only" USA software and lots of users are from europe and other parts of our dear planet. But one thing that makes us human, from the beginning, is music, and MC is a great tool to help us enjoy that... Let the music play.. everywhere..

I grew up in North Dakota. Our house was literally on the edge of town, and had no protection from the elements. We once has snow 15 feet deep, which covered our doors, (so we couldn't get out) and was up onto the roof. They literally had to dig us out. :'(

Aargh. Man am I glad I don't live there anymore... I have really bad memories of being let outside to play by myself during the superbowl (only Dad was home) and losing one of my boots in the 3 feet of snow in the front yard. Needless to say my Mom was not pleased when she returned home :)

Did you find the boot in the spring? ;D
I've got a picture at my parents' house of me digging into the worst snow winter we've had in this part of Norway. It was around 1970 and I believe the snow was around nine feet deep in my grandmother's back yard (just about the only place in town where the snow hadn't been kept down). I don't remember it myself (I was around 3-5 years old) but I have been told a lot about that. The same winter it was possible to walk on the sea around three kilometers out, I believe. Don't have those winters anymore because of the global warming, I guess...

I'm in the same boat - Lewis County (Lowville) - we've only got 5" so far, but when it's all said and done, we'll have 200-300" for the winter. :)
Bring it on!

We had about 7 inches of snow yesterday and I took a few pictures:

Thanks Mastiff,
That's very nice of you but I really don't think I'm an artist. It's just a matter of being there with a camera, the guy or gal who made it all in the subject of the picture is the real artist !
King, here are some larger version of some random pics : http://tarmag.free.fr/Photos/index.html (http://tarmag.free.fr/Photos/index.html)

If there's still no snow outside at your place (like here in Berlin...), have fun with this one (requires shockwave):
