Title: Wireless music network
Post by: TheWiz on December 09, 2003, 07:55:06 am
Hi

Just love Media Jukebox - superb software.  So now I'd love to buy a digital wireless receiver that can link into my wireless network so I can access all the MP3s on my server hard drive.  Question is:  will I still be able to keep using MJ8 for this ?  Do I have to upgrade to the MC9 ?

The hardware in question (a SMC EZ-Stream Universal Wireless Multimedia Receiver) says it comes with some 'jukebox' software - but I am loathe to switch !

Any thoughts ?  Any discussions elsewhere on this topic that I might have missed ?

Thanks !

MC will support these types of boxes, but does not currently support the SMC device.  Maybe in the future.  Right now, we support TiVo with Home Media Option (see the TiVo board here) and Sony Media Receiver.  More will follow.

Thanks for your speedy reply Jim.

Unfortunately I jumped the gun and I have now got the device on order.  I guess I'll have to just put up with whatever software they ship with it ... for the meanwhile.

If you could add the SMC product to any developer list, I'd be very grateful.  The web link is below:

Thanks !

this seems to be an area of growing interest.  I've used my MJ8 quietly with few problems since July 2002 using a Stereo-Link to connect to the home theater system.  Now I have a wireless router and want to use my playlists and other nice features of MJ8 to stream my music wireless.

I guess I understand the idea with the TIVO--TIVO picks up the music and you play it through the home theater.  Isn't there anything out there that functions like the Turtle Beach Audiotron (http://www.turtlebeach.com/site/products/audiotron/producthome.asp) that allows you to use your wireless router instead of ethernet or HPNA?  Surely there are savvy MJ8 users out there who are doing this.  Anyone?

I'm an Audiotron owner myself and highly recommend it. Why not try a Linksys wireless ethernet bridge. Basically its a wireless receiver that you put near your wired device and connect them with a short patch cable. Wired becomes wireless!
