Title: Purchasing v10 upgrade
Post by: lee269 on December 12, 2003, 12:38:32 pm
Sorry to add to the various upgrade threads, Ive trawled the board but come up short. I didnt know whether this fitted in with the beta build or elsewhere.

Just downloaded 10.0.14. I want to buy. I have a v9 licence. I gather its $10 'for a limited time only'.

Pressing the 'buy button' (Help/Buy Media Center) quotes me $39.98. Am I doing something wrong? How do I get to the upgrade price?

PS - This is the earliest Ive ever jumped onto an MJ/MC or any other beta. Stifle those cheers because I normally lag behind a few builds for fear of terminal crashes. However, Im on the train for the long haul and looking forward to the ride. Its been fun so far.

Now to check out v10 in more detail...

install v9 and make sure it is registered. Then install v10 and purchase.

John

Thanks. My v9.1 install was registered. I got my registration codes emailed and have a v9 licence (bought for v9). Do you mean install v10 in addition to v9.1 or on top of? I just installed v10.0.14 on top of v9.1 to maintain my view schemes etc.

Otherwise I guess I uninstall 10.0.14, install 9.1, restore licence, install v10 somewhere else, buy v10 upgrade, uninstall v9.1, right?

Hi Lee,

Installing v10 on top of v9 should work (sounds like what you did).

Re-install v9, see if it is still registered to you, then install v10 and try again.

At a guess: something is causing the system to lose the registration while you
are installing 10.

J - does your avatar change every 5 mins or is it just me :)

v10 installed and registered successfully. Thanks for the help. My WinXP control panel showed MC v 9.1 and 10 to uninstall. I uninstalled 9, and both disappeared from Control Panel. I installled 9.1.316 (confirmed registered), and then 10.0.14 and chose buy. Still $39.98. Then I chose Help/Restore licence from internet (or something similar - its gone now). When I entered my v9 registration code I was told 'this is out of date, do you want to buy v10 for $10?' Did I ever! So I now have a registered v10.

Im assuming its supposed to be a bit smoother than this. I hope this info helps. Although Ive been installing betas since v8 so I guess theres a bit of residue on my PC. Also, my control panel still lists MC v9.1 and MC v10 to uninstall, which doesnt seem right. Anyway, never mind - wheres the next build? Your support is appalling :)

Hi Lee,

That is strange. Anyone else with a similar experience?

No idea where the next build is, but it's probably my fault it's not out yet...

I had no problems on Thursday with the first build that allowed you to upgrade. All I had to do was click on buy and enter my credit card info and I was done.

I've been trying to purchase v10 for a couple of days but always get the page that says price is $39.98. I've followed John Gateley's instructions in this thread a few times this morning and always end up being told the price is $39.98.

Installed ver 9.1 and checked and it shows registered. Installed v 10 over 9.1, then clicked in the help section on buy and still arrive at the price of $39.98. Puzzling.

Hi, King. Version 10.0.14 and 10.0.15 have all given me the same negative results.

Not sure if I can add much more to this. My old installations of v7,8,9 and 9.1 all went into Program Files\JRiver\Media Jukebox as I over-installed up through the versions. I still have that directory with quite a lot of files and folders in it, although they dont seem too important - skin graphics, thumbnails etc. My new installs of 9.1 and subsequently 10 last night all went into the new default of \Media Center (aside: I assume I can safely remove the Media Jukebox folder now?).

My winXP control panel lists Media Center 9.1 and 10 for uninstall, both with a size of 30MB and last used 12/12/03. Ive been using v10 today (13/12), but I dont know what that date means. Id be happy to uninstall/reinstall or provide any more info if it would help.

Holden - if you're desperate you might try restoring your v9 code through v10 and seeing if that gets you to the $10 price like it did for me. Or perhaps try 10.0.13, which I think was the first build to incorporate the new price. Might be best to wait for a new build, though. Without wishing to open a can of worms, do we have any idea how long the 'limited time' price lasts? days/weeks months?

Lee, I'll try your suggestion of trying the ver 9 code in 10.0.15. If that doesn't work I guess I'll have to wait for another build and see if that works.

It seems it shouldn't be this hard.

Hi Holden,

I have no idea what is going on. I checked your v9 license, and it is valid. DId you do anything between the "check v9 license" and "install v10/buy"? Some programs change the system name and invalidate the license. The logs show that your existing license is not being sent to the credit card server, which is why you are not getting an upgrade price.

I don't care much about paying 10$ additional. I don't care to check, try and test v10 features (actually, I am glad to do it). I understand it can crash, even affect my files. But I am afraid to uninstall v9, because I want to be sure to have an estable and good music jukebox (that I paid for it...) installed on my machine.

There is any chance (now or in near future) that version 9 and version 10 could coexist on the same machine?

I asked it before, but I don't remeber getting an answer...

No, but you can install either one without uninstalling the other.

John, I went directly from 9 to 10 with no side tracks in between. I hope you can solve this problem before my 30 days expire. I imagine there must be others having this same problem.

Thanks,

Holden

If you install v9 now, WITHOUT reinstalling or restoring your v9 license, are you registered?

What is your default browser? What browser are you using to purchase?

The answer to your first question - above - is "Yes."

Your questions re browser led me to do some experimenting. My default browser had been and I was using MyIE5. This never worked. I switched to Internet Explorer as my default and used it to try to purchade but results still showed a price of $39.98. So I did the same with Opera 7 with negative results.

How would it be if I send you a money order?

Thanks,

Holden

Can you copy and paste your system info here from V9?  It's under Help.

When you start the purchase, IE will display a URL in the "Address" line of the browser, beginning with "https://rover.jriver.com".

Could you copy-and-paste that entire URL into an e-mail message to me (gateley at jriver dot com).

DO NOT POST THE URL HERE. It contains private license information.
