Title: MC9 and 10 - Safe on Same Machine?

New user wanting to know if I can have 9 and 10 on the same machine without creating conflicts or disruption.

Also, since 10 is in early beta, and will undoubtedly need to be uninstalled repeatedly until the release version is available, will I be making life unnecessarily complicated by having them on the same machine.

Finally, as I have just recieved my 9.1 license, can anyone precisely explain the process of purchasing the time-limited $10 upgrade for version 10.

Quick answer = No.

Long answer:

Install version 9.x and make sure it's registered.
Install version 10.x over the top of version 9 and then run it. Click help > purchase to be taken to the page offering the time limited upgrade.

Once that's done, you can flick back and forwards between versions. When new v10 releases come, you can just install over the top to preserve all your settings. Clean install are only rarely required, only if you're having serious problems, or are instructed to do so in the build thread.

Keep regular library backups during the beta testing process and you'll be fine.

I think I'll load and register my newly paid for version of 9 on a less important machine - and upgrade to 10 there.  That way my primary machine will be clean with 9 - and ready for 10 when the release version becomes available.

Sorry for the stupid question but I followed your directions, and have successfully downloaded and registered v.10, but I can't figure out how to "flick back and forwards between versions."

Sorry, but you can't.

To upgrade, just install over the top.

To downgrage, you'll have to uninstall and then reinstall the older version.

What bad stuff happens?
I've just this second installed 9.1.316 over the top of 10.0.15 and all seems to be well. Registration info etc is as it should be.

The installer won't overwrite newer files in the system folder with older ones.

So if JRImage (or some other component) gets upgraded in 10, the 9 installation won't change it back.  It could cause lots of problems, so it's best to just uninstall if you want to rollback.

No big deal - no damage done.

Quick question, though; I recently read in a post that v.10 can rip multiple discs in multiple drives - in parallel, as opposed to serially. Is that true?....I can't seem to find any reference to that feature.
