Media Center 10.0.18 beta is available.
This is a beta. Avoid this if problems, changes, or crashes will upset you. Do NOT try this if you aren't prepared for trouble.
The latest known stable version of 9.1 is here:

I love the new view scheme creation feature. Thanks for the great work.

Downloaded the new Version 10 and really like some of the Hairstyle change (never really used the old version). I like the view that shows all of the album covers of songs in "Playing Now".
It would be nice if as songs were played, the album view would scrole down to keep the current songs album cover on screen as well as highlighting the album cover/song name that is currently being played.
Also in this same view, there is a small version of the track info screen in the lower left corner. This box has scrole bars, but I can not figure how to configure this display to be usefull. Currently it just shows a small portion of the album cover of song being played, but can't figure out how to show the entire album cover. The scrole bars just adjust what small portion of the album cover you can see in the window.

Love the new View Scheme creator.
It'd be great if we could also chose the columns to show in this way too.
Being able to add/remove columns just by chosing one from a list is a great way to tweak a list, but when building view schemes from scratch, its a very slow way of doing all the columns - a method similar to the panes way you've introduced would be great.
I cant figure out how it's working with the VS's though in terms of which show in which mode? Mine are all showing in all modes?
-
Ive lost the ability to customize views schemes for hairstyle.
i think that it used to be, if you changed your VS in the ALL mode then you would see it in hairstyle. Now i cant figure out where to change VS that effect HS.

I want my Location Bar back... :-[ (...crying a river of tears...)

After upgrading from MC 10.0.16 to 10.0.18, I lost my media mode view schemes (in Mega mode) in the tree. The only ones that show on the tree are those that I had designed in the "All" mode. The strange thing is that I can see my media mode view schemes in Hairstyle mode. So while I can still view them in Hairstyle mode there is no way to edit/delete them from Mega mode. Help..
I reverted back to 10.0.16 which reversed this in the meantime.
P.S. For Hairstyle mode, I wish there was a way to set the List/Thumbnail options independently for Audio, Video, and Images. I'm just hoping this feature is in Hairstyle's future. I would like to see thumbnails for Video & Images, and lists for Audio.

Bugs
1. The "My Computer" toolbar button sends to "plugins" tree node (as does ctrl + 6)
2. [date] field not being saved to file. (this option is off by default, but I want it on, so I turned it on. It's not working)
3. tagging mode: select files (audio) with different dates. The pane shows selected dates. Clicking any available date sets all dates to "unassigned"
4. streaming wma very hit & miss. No digitallyimported (http://www.digitallyimported.com/) wma streams currently work. When a stream that does work is found, MC reports only "wma stream" in player area. Windows media player will display stream related info for the same streams.
(Thread for wma streaming discussion) (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=17617)
5. streaming .ram audio. MC initially catalogues these as video streams. After changing the filetype to audio, vizualisations still don't play.
6. The category toolbar does not allow new buttons to be added (messes up the display somewhat)
7. Action Window: go into any sub-section of file properties. Clicking back returns to AW home, not File Properties' home
17/12/03
8. Right-click on a playlist group, choose "edit selected item". The group name becomes editable with all text selected. Click inside the edit box is like hitting the escape key. The F2 function works the second time.
Minor Annoyance
1. Rip CD (bug?): Insert audio disc, click on "rip cd". The "norm" up to now has been for MC to automatically parse cd-rom drives and present them for ripping. Now, I get a "no files selected" dialogue and must select the drive to rip from prior to ripping
Wishlist
1. rename files from properties: Can we have an MRU button (for recently used locations) next to the browse button for "base directory"
2. remember category bar state across sessions (not reset to "all")
3. remember action window state across sessions
4. remember right-click MRU across sessions
5. Auto-complete: Would be neat if this could also "auto-dropdown" and filter the list. (I always forget to drop-down first and think auto-complete is broke)

Is the Search bar destined to stay in it's current (read unhandy) location? It's ugly to boot when you get some major criteria stringage from a smartlist in it.
-
5. Fixed: In-place editing on Win9x / ME systems could crash MC.
Thanks!
Also love the new view scheme properties creation/editing dialog.
I'm still having a problem with a specific view scheme filter, though.
I created a semicolon delimited field called Artist (related). For example, I have tracks by Tenacious D and I also have tracks by Jack Black (who is a member of Tenacious D). So for the Jack Black tracks I put Tenacious D in the Artist (related) field. Then I set the view scheme filter properties to Artist: Tenacious D and Artist (related): Tenacious D, which should give me a view scheme that shows both Tenacious D tracks and Jack Black tracks only. However, for some reason, when I add the Artist (related) parameter I get an empty view scheme. The weird thing is that I have the same type of view schemes for other artists that were created using 9.1 and they still work in 10, but creating the scheme from scratch in 10 doesn't work.

When will the action window be avail to float as in 9.1 versions before with:
"Windowed" and
"Windowed, Always on Top" ??
Having it stuck in the corner on V10 versions means I need to go back to 9.1.310 or so everytime I want to manage tags.
Is there some other method to release the window other than right-click?? :)

Disregard most of my last post here (except for the Search bar placement). It appears as though View Scheme criteria has been decoupled from the Search bar...which is perfect. Now you can search easily within the list without destroying the criteria. Can this same methodology be applied to Smartlist creation?

Hi
Hairstyle is looking better!
Keep up the good work, J-Team.

Not sure if this is a bug or if it's just something I'm baffled by: Clicking on LOCATE | ALBUM on a track in the PLAYING NOW list does... absolutely nada.
-
Bugs:
- In a playlist, I deleted a track. Then I hit UNDO. Nothing happened.
- Hitting F9 correctly creates a new (smart) playlist. F8, however, does not work as specified (doesn't create a new playlist).
Suggestions:
- In the DELETE dialog, offer keyboard shortcuts for the options; currently, we must mouse click on my preferred delete option, or hit tab at least three times.
- Allow re-ordering of playlists via drag and drop, please.
-
I don't know the names of all the panes and components of the MC window so I'll do the best I can describing the situation. Nor can I figure out how to use the appropriate tool here to insert an image, but that's a personal problem.
While "Playing Now" and the main windows split between a visualization (any, just pick one), if you collapse the left vertical pane all the way to the window edge (click the left-pointing arrow) and hover the mouse in the visualization area, the bar with play/pause, volume etc. normally associated with windowed view appears at the top of the visualization. It's no big deal, but it is redundant.
-
If I click on the media type icons in the top right corner (I think they're called media view schemes) MC sends me to Start. The left pane updates with the new media type but unless I click on it I stay in Start no matter what media view scheme I choose.
Also, the Options menu seems a little slow. It takes about a second for the dialog box to show after clicking "Options". No other dialog box has this delay.

One thing to note: I had to reinstall 10 from the latest build after un-installing because when I looked at Add\Remove Programs both 9.1 AND 10 was there. I uninstalled 9.1 and obviously 10 wouldn't load. So I installed 10 from scratch and now I'm seeing the above problem (I don't remember seeing it before).

Request for V10:
Choice of showing videoclips upside down - preferable in the menu for display formats (right click in display) - all WMV clips plays upside down in MC on my PC - so it would be great to be able to show them correct by choosing "flip vertically"
Otherwise I just want too say - what a great tool - ;)

I'm noticing a good 5 to 10 second delay after the last song has played and the Currently Playing display has cleared (displays Media Center | Zone 1) before MC becomes responsive again. Format of last played file seems to make no difference. Win2k - SP4 - 700 MHz PIII.

Hmm, I tried replicating this and didn't notice any delay at all here.... maybe somethings set-up different?

Ive lost the ability to customize views schemes for hairstyle.
i think that it used to be, if you changed your VS in the ALL mode then you would see it in hairstyle. Now i cant figure out where to change VS that effect HS.
Same here ... of course, I never tried to customize the Hairstyle view schemes before, so I am certainly not sure that this is how I should be doing it. If this isn't right, could someone point me (and eruji) to a thread that explains how to do this on v10 beta?
Otherwise, GREAT work! I love the way the new Hairstyle is developing (which is why I finally decided it was worth it to try to customize it) and many of the other improvements.
One other quick question, why don't the Album names that you have used on other tracks "populate" the drop down list in the tag editor? I noticed this behavior on all versions (that I have tried) from 9.1 up. Is there just something I need to do?
-
Howdy again,
Just wanted to comment on the behaviour of the action window...
[ramble]
I believe that in v9 there was a "back" icon on the various actions (eg tag info) that took you back to the main action window. This seems to have been dropped in favour of the action window stub that always stays under any other actions. I think this wastes screen space and the back icon worked quite dandy :) On the other hand, I do like how other actions stay open as stubs underneath the current action until you choose to close them - but there's no way to close the action window, maybe some way to toggle it being displayed or something (eg. be able to close the AW & have a "display action window" icon on all action children?) (also noticed that there's still a back icon on the action window that does nothing). On the same topic... it would be nice to be able to permit the action windows to take up more or less of the left pane as desired.
[/ramble]
Again, thanks for the great product, looking forward to following the development of v10 :)

Hi Matt,
>8. Fixed: MC installer would erroneously report 'IE 5 not installed' on some locales.
Bug fixed - even working on my system now:-)
Thanx a lot,

Request for V10:
1) Add "thumbnail" to the the choices of columns to show. Would be great if you could have thumbs in detailed view in list styles.
2) Would be great if you could apply view schemes in Playlist area as well, right now it only works in media library area.
brgds
kjdata ;)
-
BUG:
Selecting Save this view for this location and sub-locations does not work, at least when selecting it for PLAYLISTS (playlists underneath do not adopt the new view).
-
In Hairstyle view, how about the option to toggle between thumbnails and list in the Playing Now section? Also, it would be nice if Hairstyle/Playing Now would track the current selection (ie scroll it into view when entering HS)
-
I'm having a problem that sounds similar to what some are having.
I set my view scheme the way I want it for images then select an image, right click-"Tag Info" and it show the tag columns for audio.
I have "Fields to Show" set to "Same as Columns in Current View" but the columns in the view do not seem to drive the tag info fields that are displayed in "Tag Info".
Maybe this is just a setting issue. If so, I apologize for my ignorance in advance.
-
UPDATE: Un-installed 10.0.18 and re-installed 10.0.16 and I don't have the problem of being dropped back to Start when I select a media view scheme. However, the Options delay is still there. One more thing... I noticed that when I uninstall MC I have to manually delete the Quicklaunch bar icon.

I have had several crashes while editing tages and moving folder in the tree. It happens with large numbers of files. Sorry I can't be more specific but it crashes most often during drag and drop folder moving.
