Title: Error in Party Mode? (Formerly Locking the tags and ratings) Please see post 12
Post by: LonWar on December 19, 2003, 10:00:56 pm
Good Evening,

Is there a way to lock all the tags and ratings? I don't want to change a rating by accident.

If not, Can this be added?

For the possible Bug(s) in Party Mode, Please see Post 11 and 12.

Try going to:
Options -->> General -->> Importing & Tagging -->> 'Update tags when file info changes'
UNcheck this option.

This should not allow anything to be written to the file tags . . . . if you attempt to save any tag changes you will get a message to go to the options window and check this option.

Tried that, I can still change the ratings..

What I want to do, is lock down anything that can be changed and only be able to play stop the music.

Well my guess s that last will make a change but not in the database, if it does make a change in the file then that may be a bug.

well if it is a MP3

you can make a change in the MP3 Plug-in (Thru The Plug-in Manager)

this will keep it from making any changes to the file for all fields however.

It's ape.

It'd be nice if there was a use mode and a edit mode.
That way the life stays out of edit mode, and all is well :)

OK, try THIS  :P

In Windows, navigate to your music library folder . . . .
Right-click on the folder . . .
select 'Properties' . . .
Check the little box that says 'Read Only'

imjustagamer, all the advice you have so far helps you prevent tag changes being written to files. I may be wrong, but I think the only way to prevent tag changes being saved in your library is to run in "party mode".

c&p from the help file.....
Quote
Party Mode
Party Mode allows you to protect your Media Library while others are using Media Center. It grants them full, non-destructive and non-intrusive use of Media Center by allowing them to do just about anything, short of permanently saving or removing information from your Media Library.

To switch to party mode, go to View on the Menu bar and select Party Mode. To switch back to normal mode, uncheck "Party Mode" from the View menu.

When you switch back to normal mode, all temporary settings and changes that occurred while Media Center was in party mode will be replaced by your original settings.

Forget your password?

If you forget your password you can clear it in the Party Mode password dialog by double clicking on the "Man wearing the lampshade" image while holding down the Ctrl and Shift keys on your keyboard.

If you don't go there, then you can, as described above, prevent tag changes being written to files, then, if you believe the tags have been changed in your library, you can select the files, then do an "update library from tags" on them.

Party mode works a little odd... with a little testing (10.0.22 - not sure if it works exactly the same in 9) I found that when in party mode, on can still seem to change the tags/ratings and remove files from the media library, however if you quit and restart Media Center the changes will not have been made (**note: Media Center doesn't start back up in party mode if quit in party mode**), however - and a big however - ***if you exit party mode via the View menu without quitting the program, any and all changes to the media library are kept*** (plus the Playing Now list is cleared, whereas with a quit/restart it is restored to what it was before the Party Mode.)

Thanks... Party Mode is EXACTLY what I was looking for...  ;D

However........

As stated in the above post.... If you make changes in PM and then turn PM off, all the changes are kept....... Doesn't this defeat the purpose? Or is this just a bug...

I would also like to be able to start MC in PM, However there is no option for this...

JRiver any chance??
