I noticed that the Cover Art folder sometimes contains gif version of some of the jpgs. I'm assuming the gifs are used for small thumbnails - but that is an assumption.
If the gifs are created by MC, how does one force MC to create them for cover art that is manually imported.
thanks

if you used my plug-in they came from the internet.

Thanks KingSparta,
Can you tell me if MC uses the gifs - and whether or not they can be simply deleted with no adverse consequences?

It can, but if there is a JPG more than likely MC is linked to the JPG
there is an option to do a cleanup of the cover art folder in MC9\MC10
that will delete all un-used cover art.
