This started at some point a few releases back - whenever I insert a DVD, I get a box that pops up saying "Gathering information and updating view". Frequently, this box won't go away, and I have to terminate the MC process to get rid of it. The thing is, I don't even use MC to play DVD's. I just use it for music. Is there any way to get rid of the "Gathering information" popup on DVD insertion? And, why is it hanging? Is anyone else seeing this?
Thanks.

I am not in front of my MC machine right now, so I'm not sure about exact paths. Somewhere in the Options (under General?) is some drop downs that tell MC what to do when say...a CD or DVD is inserted. Try experimenting with them.

Thanks - yes, I tried that. I have it set to "do nothing" when a DVD is inserted. The other options are to "play" or "ask", I think. It seems that even though it will "do nothing" when the DVD is inserted, it still wants to do a YADB lookup, or something, whenever a DVD is inserted.

MC is trying to figure out what the disc is and what's on it. For a DVD, it'll use DirectX to find out about the files.
This must be hanging for some reason. Do you have other DVD software installed? Does it work?
Thanks Dave.

You could always hold the Shift key down upon DVD insertion for 5 sec's or so. Not as drastic a solution as turning autorun off (in Windows...not MC which you tried and it didn't work).

Hi, Matt. Yes - I'm using the Theatertek program to play DVD's. The Theatertek program works fine when MC isn't running. But, when MC is running and I get that hang, I have to terminate MC to get the TT player to work.
This only started happening recently - maybe in the last month or so. Did something change in MC?

If Theatertek isn't running, does MC work alright?
Could be global variables in one of the DVD filters or something if that's the case.

Matt:
Theatertek isn't running at the time that MC sees the disk insert, but it gets started soon after. Again, did something change recently, with regard to what MC does when a DVD is inserted? Is there any reason that it should do a lookup on DVD insert, if the user has "do nothing" on dvd insertion selected?

I started having problems with MC9 soon after installing Theatertek. Similar symptoms to yours, except that system freezes up. Would DirectX also affect CD burning?
-
"Would DirectX affect CD burning?" I wouldn't think so, but maybe? Matt?
GP - when did you install TheaterTek? I've been using TheaterTek longer than I've been using MC9. I've been on TT for almost 3 years, MC for maybe 2 years. I didn't have these problems until very recently, it seems that a recent change started the problem.

I've been on MC for about a year. I started using Theatertek about 3 months ago. I'm thinking that the problems may be due to a change in DirectX?
-
There was another message today in a thread (about TV?) that pointed to a fix from Microsoft for a bug in DirectX. Worth a look.

Doesn't seem like it. The only thing that changed for me was MC. I haven't upgraded DirectX or TheaterTek in quite a long time. The problems started for me with one of the recent MC upgrades.
