Title: I purchased MC9, install fails
Post by: dwkmedia on January 10, 2004, 06:19:24 am
I paid for MC9, got the license, but it is an .erf instead of an MRJ.  If I use the internet restore it pops up gibberish in IE6 window. If I use the file restore it will not find the file as it is looking for an MRJ.

I am using the latest version of IE 6 on Windows XP professional.

Please read (in detail) the FAQ here:

www.mediajukebox.com/license

Pay particular attention to the method for right clicking to save the Install Key.

The Install Key is only good for two weeks.

Thanks you for the reply.   I assume you mean this

Q: Can I save the Install Key instead of installing it directly?
A: Yes. You can right click on the link following purchase, then choose "save as" instead of clicking on it. Then, in Windows Explorer, just double click on the file to install it.

I went to the resotre page entered my reg# I right clicked on it and saved target, then I clicked on the saved file and got this message.

Windows cannot open this file
EcMusci center9-35591.erf

Now what am I missing?
I do not believe this!

MC9 has exceeded the 30 day trial. I goto advanced
select retore from file it is asking for a mjr file. I am getting an erf file.

If I restore my license, right click, and save, the file has a name something like this:

Media Center10-34202.mjr

If I click on it, after MC10 is installed, I get a message saying
"License for Media Center was successfully installed."

So you have something strange going on.

What version of the software do you have installed?    Maybe it's some other program, not MC.

You could help improve the situation by skipping the "I do not believe this" sort of comments.  Something is radically wrong.  If you'll just be patient it will get sorted out faster.

Just a question:

Do you have the game "Neverwinter" installed?

Fair enough.   Ill give it another try.

The trial version installed to this location.

"C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center\Media Jukebox.exe"

The icon comes up 'thank you for choosing media center. Says it is expired but gives me the option  to restore via file or internet.
Option to install via file indicates it must be a .mrj.

I started with the version before the current 9.1.316.  When the license did not  install, I downloaded the newly  released 9.1.316, but had the same problem. I diabled NAV, but no luck.

Am I correct in expecting the license file should be to be an .MRJ instead of .ERF?  When I try to restore via the internet it opens

The last tech told me he was working on the problem,  and thought  I was using Netscape.

I am using the latest versions of Win XP Pro,  and IE6.

I dont have Neverwinter installed.
I have no screen savers, or games installed.

Lets see..
Popupcop
Spybot
Norton AV
( I tried disabling  these before the install)

Lotus Notes
Cicso VPN client
Client access

Winamp
Windows media player
musicmatch (Yours is better than all of these  ;) )

Since it's Sat, do you want to pick this up next week?

You never did say if you went to the restore page and right clicked and made sure you were saving the file with the proper extention as JimH asked you to do.

The file I saved to my desktop (from the link on the restore page) was an .erf file instead of an .mjr.

EcMusci center9-35591.erf

Even If You Make Sure The File Extender is ".mjr" prior to you saving it

Sounds really weard if you use the "Save As" option when you right click on the link.
