Title: Play video stream on MC from TiVo?
Post by: Marc on January 12, 2004, 10:22:36 am
TiVo Home Media Option lets one TiVo access programming stored on another TiVo.  Is there a way to access (and view) programs stored on my TiVo from my computer using MC?  Please say "yes"...

I'm surprised you would say "maybe in the future", TiVo is very hard core about not allowing this [saving content off the tivo hard drive] to happen other than through their approved methods, i.e. a Pioneer Tivo DVD burner.

So did you mean:
*  "maybe, b/c we are talking with Tivo about it";
*  "maybe, b/c we are incorporating some of the hacks that people use" or
*  "maybe, but I haven't looked at what is involved yet"

I hope its not the last one.

Cheers!

You will never get content OUT of the TiVo into your computer, but I see NO reason that Media Center isnt able to "Emulate" another TiVo with content to watch.

Is someone looking into this option - obviously the other way around would take considerable hacking as the content is copy-protected anyway. Why cant MC spoof the TiVo into believing that IT is another TiVo with content to share?

TiVo made some announcements about their unreleased TiVoToGo option at CES.  They are clearly working on transfer of shows from TiVo to PCs and potentially vice-versa.

You may want to check out the discussion of this and related devices on some of the TiVo boards.
