Title: Stream recording?
Post by: drbenson on January 12, 2004, 08:43:38 pm
Can MC 9/10 record web media streams? I would like to record a couple of hours of some of my favorite web-based stations to take along in my iHP 120. One particular Russian station broadcasts Windows streaming format; MP3 is probably more common.

If I can't do this natively within MC, does anyone have suggestions for plugins or external programs which will do the job? Thanks for the help.

Yes - just use the Record Sound...  tool.
Remember to enable a mixer record level - I found this to be VERY sensitive when obtaining the correct level in AUTO but I think that so long as you are close, its OK.

I have yet to get MC's recorder to work, so I use other software for this still.
If you have difficulties and need to look outsode MC may I suggest
Ripcast -or- Total Recorder
The first is a dedicated stream recorder which saves mp3's, the second is much more versitle and serves well for other uses.

Nope, I have never been sucessful with it.
Then again I didn't get overly involved in trying since I have both RipCast and Total Recorder Pro, so it didn't tae much for me to give up on MC and open one of those.

Recorder works
Unlike program like TotalRecorder there is not an automatic volume level setting.

Unlike some other jukebox, this is tricky to set in MC
But ,when set , you get ,by far , a better sound than with other basic Recorder.

Well , not tricky , but takes more time to set.
Worth to try as if you like it ,no need to spend $$ for another program

Thanks for the replies- I really appreciate the help. I messed around with recording via the Mixer, and got it to work. Still working on proper levels and such.

Question, though- doesn't this means of recording introduce an additional D/A and A/D conversion, as opposed to recording the bitstream and having it decoded (once) at playback? Especially with lossy formats, I try to minimize the 'bit torture' to which the music is exposed.
